Palm Sunday Divine Service Portland 1
29 March 2026
Conducted by Rector B. Nelson
Assisted by PR.G Sewells
Bible Text Luke 19:36-37. *Prepare the way for the Lord* Message: Like the disciples at the time of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, we too profess the Lord and His return. All four gospels recount the story of Jesus entry into Jerusalem, Matthew and Mark mention the crowd spreading palm branches on the road and shouting "Hosanna", while John links the scene with the raising of Lazarus. Luke for his part emphasises the joy of the disciples ,they praise God aloud for the deeds of Jesus that they have witnessed. *Preparing the way for the Lord* When Jesus entered Jerusalem ,the disciples spread their clothes on the road. In doing so they honoured Him as King (2Kings 9:13) and laid something valuable namely their clothes, at His feet. Today, we honour Jesus Christ, who comes to us in word and sacrament, by serving Him with gifts we have been given.
Bible Reading by Deacon Fisher-Mark 11:1-11

Palm Sunday was also the last service for the Fisher family, who were transfered to Voorbrug congregation in Delft.

Portland-1 Confirmation Divine service
Sunday 01st February 2026
Officiant Rector: B Nelson
Assisted by Pr.G Sewells.
Bible Text: Matthew10:32*"Therefore whoever confesses Me before men. him I will also confess before My Father in Heaven. *"PROFESSING CHRIST"*
Message: We profess our faith in Christ. On this Sunday our confirmands profess their commitment to Christ in front of the congregation. We surround them to witness their promise, but also to assure them of our love and support. *Committing to follow the law of Christ:* By professing their faith in Christ our confirmands publicly commit to follow His Law .It is this Law that tells them what is right and wrong, what they should do and should should not do. Rector added" In order to follow and execute the law of Christ we must ask God to open our ears and understanding ,so that we firstly know the voice of Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, understand the gospel and ensure that we execute it to the best of our ability ".With this vow they promise to be disciples and witnesses of Christ. One of their tasks will be to reveal the gospel of Christ to others in a concrete way through their behavior. A true Christian sees every human-being as a person loved by God, a soul whom Jesus wants to lead into fellowship with God. The law of Christ prescribes that we do unto others as we would want them to do unto us. Jesus asks us to show respect, consideration and kindness to everyone, without exception. Having renounced evil we refuse to satisfy our needs and desires at the expense of others, we do our best to help them, Even though it is more difficult, we take the path of forgiveness and reconciliation rather than that of resentment and retaliation .Rector-"This aligns with the great commandment of God "Love God above all and your neighbor as yourselves. * *Declaring our love for Christ:* *The confirmation vow is not just a promise to be obedient and serve. It is also a declaration of love. Through the instruction they have received, the confirmands have been able to discover the love that Jesus Christ has for them. They have believed in it and decided to respond to it. Rector "By professing Jesus Christ you is proof that you love Him, Love God ,Love the Holy Spirit, believe in the gospel. His teaching and trust in the His promise ,that He has gone to prepare a place /Kingdom so that when He return ,we have reached the required level of faith as we are being prepared and allow ourselves to be shaped by the Holy Spirit .
