🍂 SAINT OF THE DAY | St. Peter Claver
Feast Day: September 9🍂
“We must speak to them with our hands before we speak to them with our lips.”
St. Peter Claver, a Spanish Jesuit missionary who lived in the 17th century, devoted nearly forty years of his priestly life to serving enslaved Africans in Cartagena, Colombia. He welcomed, cared for, accompanied, and defended people who were treated as less than human, striving to uphold their dignity and bring them hope.
His life reminds us that faith becomes most meaningful when it is expressed through compassionate action. He did not simply speak about Christ—he encountered Christ in people who were suffering and placed himself at their service.
đź’™ A lesson for us:
Who around us needs to be seen, heard, comforted, or treated with greater dignity today?
The challenge is simple: notice someone who is hurting, and respond with compassion. A kind word, a patient presence, a generous act, or a helping hand can become a quiet expression of God's love.
This spirit resonates deeply with the Camillian mission—to recognize Christ in the sick, suffering, vulnerable, and forgotten, and to serve them with tenderness and mercy.
🙏 Prayer:
St. Peter Claver, teach us to see Christ in every person, especially those who suffer and are often overlooked. Give us generous hearts and willing hands, that through our simple acts of love, others may experience God's compassion. Amen.
May we, like St. Peter Claver, never pass by someone in need when love is asking us to stop. ❤️
