KING OF KINGS
The day you accepted Jesus as Lord of your life, that is the day you became a citizen of God’s kingdom. God’s kingdom is not of this world, His kingdom is far greater than this world could ever imagine. God rules and reign over His kingdom. What is a kingdom ? It is a governing of a king over a territory that impacts his domain with intention and purpose. Jesus is King over all and He is King over your heart. Psalm 24:7 says, “Lift up your heads O ye gates, be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors and the King of glory shall come in.” The gates here refer to our hearts. That is where the doors are situated. The King of glory wants to come in. Revelation 3:20 says, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hears My voice and open the door, I will come in and will sup with him, and he with Me.” That passage is talking about the door of our hearts. Jesus wants to reign in every believer’s life.
Jesus as the King of kings and Lord of lords, declares and echoes God’s authority and power, ruling and reigning over all creation. Even Nebuchadnezzar, a very great Old Testament King, came to acknowledge God as his sovereign in the book of Daniel: Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified Him who lives forever. His dominion is an eternal dominion; His kingdom endures from generation to generation...Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, because everything He does is right and all His ways are just” (Daniel 4:34, 37).
A king wears a crown, a robe, has a scepter and sits on his throne. Throughout the Bible we see many scriptures that describes the image of our King. Revelation 3:21; Isaiah 6:1; Revelation 6:2; Hebrews 1:8; Revelation 17:14. A king has power and dominion and reigns over all. He has the largest kingdom, the largest possession and the greatest dominion. Ephesians 1:21 tells us that He has been given a name that is above all principalities, power, might and dominion. His reign is eternal and is superior to the temporal reign of the kings of the world.
Jesus Christ, our King reigns forever. By His victory on the cross over hell, death and Satan. Philippians 2:9-11 says, “Wherefore God hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name. That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things in earth, and things underneath the earth. And every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord...”
