A time to say thank you.
It may seem a little early in our fundraiser, but I am overwhelmed by the congregation of Holy Spirit and the larger community of East London for their incredible support of Mission for Wheels.
We have received an eclectic mix of items to auction, from quirky finds to luxury goods.
Included in those items to create a memorable evening we have been gifted in a beautiful presentation box 6 bottles of Fat Bastard wine complete with the coveted Fat Bastard golden hippo.

In addition, a magnum of Rupert and Rothschild Vignerons 2020 or if you prefer, a collector’s bottle of Anthonij Rupert Sagnac, a natural boutique brandy. However, all the items deserve a special celebration of thanks. The impact will be enormous on our fundraising project Mission for Wheels.
In addition, we have partnered with the Glenmorangie Whisky brand to bring guests a sensory experience focusing on tastings of their Triple Cask Reserve, the 12 Year Old Glenmorangie AND the 15 Year Old designed by Director of Whisky Creation Dr. Bell Lumsden to mimic the “magic of a sunset !”
For those guests who prefer to the grapes over the grains we are inviting a sommelier to assist you with sampling an exceptional brand of South Africa’s finest wines accompanied by food pairings from the new chefs at the ELGC.
In the meantime, Jenny Flemmer’s heirloom quality childrens quilt, will be auctioned within the parish by the Catholic Woman's League.
We have also received cash donations deposited directly into the church coffers. (Anita, God Bless). Our target is to raise at least R150 000 to provide Father with a roadworthy vehicle .
Mission for Wheels is definitely on the road, so let’s keep driving our project forward together and keep an eye on this space for updates.

Following on the post regarding the organ, here is a hopefully brief synopsis of what's happened since then. I chatted to the congregation after a Sunday mass in April and explained what started out as a mission to raise funds to buy a new organ, has now been redirected to buy Father another car.

Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Stirling has been serving the Christian community of East London since 1965. During that time, it has seen many of the present-day parishioners born and welcomed into the fold through the sacrament of baptism, grow up to be confirmed into the faith and then the blessing of marriage has been bestowed in front of the altar. At the end, a new beginning has been promised by the church for those who die in the faith.

In order to perform those services Father needs to be able to travel and his vehicle is not road-worthy. I think it's a 2013 model with huge mileage on the clock. Indeed it stands forlornly on the lawn outside his home while a kind soul has lent Father a car to be able to perform those blessings.

So, right now we are in the initial stage of an auction project to raise the necessary funds. We are calling our faithful venture, Mission for Wheels.

I'm aware that the congregation of Holy Spirit are often replied on to contribute towards worthy causes. Therefore, this time we are appealing to the wider community of East London for both items to be auctioned and to attend the auction.

If you are able to donate an item, service or would prefer to give a monetary donation please do let one of the committee members know. Our names are at the end of this post together with contact numbers and email addresses.

No date has been set as yet, but the East London Golf Club has kindly offered us a choice of their venues for free. We have an enthusiastic auctioneer lined up and are working on a speaker of note. We promise an evening of something exclusively different.
In the interim, please pray for the success of Mission for Wheels.
God Bless.
Jill

This post is apologetically shared at this late date, as I had the privilege of addressing the congregation at the beginning of April. Our mission started out as the Choir's determination to raise funds for a new church organ and, through a not so small miracle, may hopefully now end with even so much more.
At that time, I said, "about two weeks ago, a fundraising committee was formed, ideas bounced around and a decision made that an auction would be the best way to go forward." In the interim, Anita, the stalwart of our choir, posted on East London Girls a face book page the need for a new organ, and a most generous donor has given us one!
The next hurdle was to get the organ from the home in Vincent to Holy Spirit and then the really huge hurdle of lugging it up the very challenging staircase in church. In addition to that challenge, is the fact that there were two broken organs which remained resolutely in the loft area already. We certainly didn't need three organs so two would have to go!
I approached Dewing Construction and with the lure of a bucket of Kentucky chicken for the hard workers, the new organ was lofted up and the broken organs brought down to reside in the hall until sold.
Please watch this space for updates as our Mission progresses.
