Mary and Martha Service 25 July 2026 : What this day means for us as AWF Grahamstown: As we continue celebrating .

1. HONORED: MARY AND MARTHA SERVICE
In recognition of Executive, Outreach, Spirituality, Branches & Archdeaconries. We were blessed deeply by the presence of new members and probationers.

To serve like Mary at Jesus’ feet, and Martha with willing hands – that’s the balance we’re called to.

2. A LASTING MEMORY
“Efforts, time, gifts and love will be a lasting memory to the beneficiaries.”

3. OUR DECLARATION GOES FORWARD

“Our Past is not wasted, Our Presence matters and Our Future is in God's Hands”
This is exactly the flame of our 40 Years:

4. UNITED IN LOVE & SERVICE
“Together in Christ we can do more just like Mary and Martha. Let's have a Mary heart in Martha's world.”
That is the AWF call. Prayer + Action.
Worship + Work.

Highlight: Honoring Past President Mrs Maggie Antrobus who served during 1994-1999. In her talk, the take home was: "Never have fancy ideas they might vanish with the wind, stick to what you can afford and trust God in all what you do and do it with love'. Donations: 4 Servers with Garments , Groceries to 3 Households and visited the housedbounds with tokens of love and showing them that they are still appreciated and valued.

AWF DIOCESE OF GRAHAMSTOWN
MANDELA DAY 2026: 67 MINUTES OF SERVICE

Theme: Reimagining Ourselves, Igniting God’s Flame
Aim: Restore dignity by showing up practically with love. Care for creation and all God’s people.

VARIOUS ACTIVITIES ACROSS GRAHAMSTOWN

1. CARE FOR CREATION & WORSHIP
In partnership with DYG, AWF addressed the need for fresh flowers which are expensive to buy for the altar every Sunday.
Activity: Cleaning of Church yard and Sunday School. Started a garden and planted flowers for the altar.
“Let us be good stewards of God’s creation and His house.”

2. CARE FOR THE SICK & ELDERLY
Day Visited:
- Settlers Hospital – Maternity Ward and Female Ward. Prayers, presence, and comfort given.
- Old Age Home – Fellowship, prayer, and dignity visits.

3. SERVICE & STEWARDSHIP: FEEDING & SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY*
- Cooking and Feeding the Destitute
- Partnership with MU: MU organized Social Development consultations while AWF fed those in attendance.
- Data Collection: Screening done to check who qualifies for Social Grants and other support services.

IMPACT
We touched lives where it hurts most.
Scripture: “I was sick and you looked after me, I was hungry and you gave me something to eat.”- Matthew 25:36

Total Participation: All members participated with joy and humility. Isandla esinamandla.

CONCLUSION
In 67 minutes we could not solve everything, but in 67 minutes we showed that AWF Grahamstown cares. We restored dignity, we cared for creation, and we served with love.

The Anglican Womens Fellowship (AWF) conducted an Indaba on the 16th June 2026 at Christ Church ,Amalinda led and facilitated by their Chaplain Rev Canon M Mtimkulu.

The theme of the day was " 60 Years of faithful witness : honouring our past , empowering our present , shaping our future " .. linked to the AWF motto " United in Prayer Service and Love" . Key to the Indaba was reflecting and drawing knowledge from past experiences so as to move forward as part of one's history in the guild.

Humility and obedience were extensively unpacked as we looked into qualities and skills of leadership with all that rooted in surrendering oneself to Christ in totality.

Members were encouraged to practice meditation so as to listen to God.

In enhancing the days message in renewing commitment , Chaplain took members through various scriptures. Of importance was St Paul's letter , 2 Cor 8 : 1 - 7 looking into principles of giving to guide commitment.

Attendees shared on challenges faced when giving in church.

Testimonies were shared on how God has been faithful towards us as givers.

In closing , members were encouraged to be true servants and stewards by receiving and giving generously ; putting time , effort and resources in doing Gods work and as such being an example at home , work , church and places where we meet people.

On 06 June 2026, the AWF under the EL West celebrated the World Environment Day at St Gregory Parish - Mdantsane under the theme, "Climate in Action".

The day was blessed with the presence of the ward councillor who appreciated the involvement of the Municipality in the church programme and hoped for further partnership on waste issues.

The event was in three phases:

- Phases 1 were presentations by the Diocesan Environmental Care desk Ms Z Ncula giving a background to the world environment day, its purpose and impact of poor waste management practices linked to recent floods to Climate Change. Mr Z Kuwana from Zam Trading a waste picker working with waste, gave benefits of recycling and opportunities out there on waste. Key to his talk was how waste could be turned to wealth which was demonstrated in phase 3. In our midst were ladies from Berlin that came because they had found something interesting which they were not aware of from Mr Kuwana. Of importance also were other projects they are doing in their own space manufacturing cleaning products.
- In actual fact today's event created a platform for sharing ideas, skills and best practices.
- Phase 2, saw participants cleaning open spaces in the community around the church.
- Phase 3, was the sorting of waste reclaiming recyclables from waste collected during the cleaning .

There was maximum participation and much enthusiasm shown by the participants as they engaged with Mr Kuwana. Much knowledge and skills was transferred to participants.

With spirits high everyone pledged to keep the flame burning, sorting waste at household and bringing recyclables to church to support such initiatives from bin coding to advocating for waste management for a safe, healthy environment.
