WEDNESDAY: THE LIFE OF A HEALTHY CHURCH
Devotion | Discipleship | Diversity
Scripture:
Acts 2:42
“They devoted themselves … to the prayers.”
Devotion:
Prayer was not an emergency option for the early church; it was their way of life.
Too often we treat prayer like a fire extinguisher, only reaching for it when trouble comes. The early believers understood that they could not accomplish God’s work without God’s power.
Prayer acknowledges our dependence upon God. It reminds us that while we may plant and water, only God can give the increase.
A church may continue functioning without prayer, but it cannot thrive spiritually without it.
As Arthur often reminds us, “Prayer is the engine room of the church.”
Prayer:
Father, teach me to pray faithfully and consistently. Keep me from self-reliance and draw me into deeper dependence upon You. May prayer become my first response rather than my last resort. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
