Adventist Education 2030: From Vision to Action

Today, 29 August 2026, marked the inspiring culmination of the Education Week of Spiritual Emphasis at Mooikloof Seventh-day Adventist Church, under the theme "Adventist Education 2030: Preparing a Generation to Lead, Serve and Transform Society".

Hosted by Dr. Bongeka Mavumengwana-Khanyile, Mooikloof Seventh-day Adventist Church Education Director, the programme brought together Presda Primary School and Education leaders, church members, families and learners to reflect on the future of Adventist education and the collective responsibility of building a strong, mission-driven education system.

Pastor Treasure Nkuna, Trans-Orange Conference Education Director, emphasised the importance of strengthening Adventist education through church, home and school partnerships.

Prof. Tankiso Letseli, former president of Helderberg College of Higher Education, shared a personal testimony of his Adventist education journey and the enduring value he places on Adventist education. He also focused on preparing graduates for leadership, service and mission in a changing world.

Dr. Catherine Kabutu-Njekwa, Southern Africa Union Conference Education Director, highlighted key strategic Union priorities, including the strengthening of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training College at Bethel, strengthening hands-on, skills-based education, and advancing quality Adventist education through excellence, character and mission.

Prof. Alvin Masarira, University of Cape Town Adjunct Lecturer and Member of the SAU Education Department Strategic Planning Committee, challenged the church on the need to develop world-class, sustainable Christian Adventist higher education institutions that remain firmly grounded in mission while preparing young people for the future and for eternity.

The presentations were followed by an engaging question and answer session providing an opportunity for further dialogue on the future and strengthening of Adventist education.

The message from the day was clear: the future of Adventist education will not happen by chance, it must be intentionally built, together.

As this Education Week of Spiritual Emphasis ends, the mission continues: strengthening our schools, investing in our institutions, nurturing character, pursuing excellence, and preparing a generation to lead, serve, transform society, and be educated for eternity.

Building Together for Excellence in Adventist Education

The Adventist Accrediting Association (AAA) engaged with Good Hope Adventist High School yesterday and today, 25 August 2026, in a spirit of partnership and shared commitment to strengthening and advancing the school.

The engagement included reviewing school documents, touring the campus, and meaningful interaction with the administration, teachers, support staff and students. It was particularly encouraging to see the school actively investing in the renovation of its student dormitories, demonstrating a commitment to improving the learning and living environment for its learners.

This progress aligns with Strategic Objective 1 of the SAU Vision 2040: Upragding of existing institutions to world-class standards.

The engagement was led by Pastor Tapera, SID Field Secretary, together wth Dr. Catherine Kabutu-Njekwa, SAU Education Director, Pastor Justice Marasi, Cape Conference Education Director, Dr. Phatsoa Mosae, SAU Health Ministries Direcctor, and other representatives from various entities of the Church , including principals.

Together, we build. Together, we improve.
Together, we advance Adventist Education.

Bethel Education Sabbath: United in Advancing Adventist Education

Today, 22 August 2026 at Bethel High School, we experienced a meaningful and inspiring Education Sabbath, bringing together leaders from across the different levels of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in a collaborative effort to promote, strengthen and advance Adventist education.

The programme featured a rich range of presentations and engagements. Bethel High School learners actively participated in the Sabbath School, reminding us of the young people at the heart of our educational mission.

Dr. Catherine Kabutu-Njekwa, Southern Africa Union Conference Education Director, presented the SAU Vision for the Bethel TVET College and Pilot Project, highlighting the opportunity to equip young people with practical, marketable skills for life and service. The programme also included a fundraising appeal for the Bethel TVET College, calling on members, churches and friends to Adventist education to contribute towards making this vision a reality.

Dr. Felix Njini, Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Division Education Director, presented on Work Education: Preparing Young People for Life and Service, emphasizing the importance of education that prepares learners not only academically, but also practically and purposefully.

Pastor Etwell Tapera, SID Field Secretary, addressed the important subject of Sustainability of Educational Institutions, while Ms. Qwanele Magwaca, Marketing Manager of Helderberg College of Higher Education, promoted the opportunities available at Helderberg College.

The programme also featured Dr. Mzwandile Sokupa, who addressed Adventist Education and Infrastructure, while Dr. Russell Raelly and Dr. Mosae Phatsoa joined in promoting and strengthening the Adventist education mission. Pastor Justice Marasi, Cape Conference Education Director, was the host and was also part of this collaborative effort to advance Adventist education.

It was truly a Sabbath of collaboration, vision and commitment as we rallied together to strengthen Adventist education and support the vision for the Bethel TVET College.

Together, we educate. Together, we equip. Together, we prepare young people for life, servie and eternity.

Strengthening a Culture of Learning, Work and Service at Bethel High School

Yesterday and today, 21 August 2026, as part of the Adventist Accrediting Association (AAA) visit to Bethel High School, we had the privilege of engaging with learners, teachers and support staff across the school community. The visit provided an opportunity not only to observe, but also to listen, appreciate progress, and identify opportunities to further strengthen the school and its mission.

The team was led by Dr. Felix Njini, SID Education Director, and included Dr. Catherine Kabutu-Njekwa, SAU Education Director, and Pastor Justice Marasi, Cape Conference Education Director, together with other directors and education leaders from the Southern Africa Union Conference and various church entities.

Among the encouraging practices observed was the school’s garden-to-table initiative, where produce from the school garden contributes to meals served in the dining hall. This reflects important principles of the Adventist philosophy of education, particularly practical learning, stewardship, self-reliance and the integration of education with everyday life.

The visit was therefore much more than an assessment. It was an opportunity to celebrate what is working well, encourage the school community and identify ways to support continued growth and improvement.

At Bethel High School, we are reminded that Adventist education is about more than academic achievement, it is about developing the whole person and preparing young people for a life of faith, purpose, service and meaningful contribution.

As we celebrate the gift and mission of Adventist Education, may we be reminded of the privilege we have to invest in the next generation and to create learning environments where faith, excellence, character, and service flourish.
