Christian Worship Center (Church of God, Cleveland, TN) began as a home group made up of people in the Zillah area who were attending Church at Christian Life Center about 20 miles away. When the home group grew to about 36 people, it was decided to investigate the possibility of starting a church locally. Our church was organized in the summer of 1987 and thus began the adventure. This adventure
has taken a handful of committed Christians from an unorganized group of believers to a church of people who believe God can do anything - if we will allow Him to. The vision of the church was impressed upon the leaders early in the formation of the congregation. We wanted to build a ministry center where believers can not only worship the Lord in Spirit and in Truth, but also have an opportunity to develop their Spiritual gifts and minister to others. Now, after many years of building a campus with a vision of preparing for ministry, the church has committed to impacting the world for Jesus. CWC has been led to believe that if you believe big, in harmony with the vision God has given you, God will do big things through you. That is the passion that gives the church momentum and focus. Pastor Gary Conner came to Christian Worship Center from Christian Life Center in Yakima, where he was teaching the adult Bible study. He had previously served two congregations as senior pastor. He and his family had settled in the Yakima area after their last assignment. He was helping in a teaching capacity when the new congregation in Zillah began looking for a pastor. After holding services for the CWC congregation for a couple of Sundays, Reverend Rodney Jeffords, Administrative Bishop of the Church of God Regional Office appointed Pastor Conner to pastor the young congregation on August 3rd, 1987.
