Welcome to Grace Church, we are so glad you are here today. As we come together, I want us to remember something simple: God does not measure things the way we measure them. We often look at what we have and immediately see what is missing. We think we need more people, more money, more resources, more strength, or more help before something great can happen. But throughout Scripture, God repeatedly shows us that He is not limited by what we lack. In Exodus 17, Israel faced one problem after another. First, there was no water, and then almost immediately afterward, the Amalekites attacked. Yet God already had everything necessary for the victory. He had a staff in Moses’ hand, a rock at Horeb, Joshua in the valley, Moses on the mountain, and when Moses became tired, He had Aaron and Hur standing beside him. It didn’t look like much, but when what they had was surrendered to God, it became enough. There is also an important lesson about listening to God’s instructions. God told Moses what to do, and Moses obeyed. Moses instructed Joshua what to do, and Joshua obeyed. Joshua didn’t have to understand everything happening on the mountain; he simply had to remain faithful to his assignment in the valley. Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Sometimes God’s direction will not look like what we expected. Sometimes the answer looks like a rock when we are looking for a river. Sometimes the answer is a staff already in our hand when we are asking God for something new. Sometimes the answer is two or three faithful people when we are praying for a crowd. The question isn’t always, “Do I have enough?” The question is, “Am I listening? Am I obeying? Am I willing to use what God has already placed in my hand?” One stone was enough to support Moses. Two men were enough to hold up his hands. A few faithful people were enough to stand together, and God was enough to give Israel the victory. So today, don’t focus only on what you don’t have. Look at what God has already placed in your hand, listen for His direction, trust His instructions, be faithful with what you have, and watch what God can do with it.
