Weekly Tafsir Recap: Surah Al-Layl, Verses 17–21

In the closing verses of Surah Al-Layl, Allah contrasts الْأَشْقَىٰ — the most wretched — with الْأَتْقَىٰ — the one of highest taqwa.

The surah teaches us that taqwa is not merely a feeling or claim. It becomes visible through sincere action, especially through giving.

True giving is not transactional. It is not for repayment, recognition, praise, or social obligation. It is giving that purifies the soul and seeks only the pleasure of Allah.

وَلَسَوْفَ يَرْضَىٰ
“And surely, he will be pleased.”

The one who gives sincerely for Allah will not be disappointed in the end.

⚠️ The salah will start exactly at 9:00AM and will not be delayed.

May Allah allow us to witness Eid with gratitude, forgiveness, and joy alongside the community.

🌙 Next Tuesday is the blessed Day of Arafah — a day of mercy, forgiveness, and accepted dua.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“There is no day on which Allah frees more people from the Fire than the Day of Arafah.”

Join us at Zubaida Foundation for a short reminder, followed by dhikr and collective dua as we gather in the final moments before Maghrib, turning to Allah with hope, humility, and need.

We said what we said.

Muslims have been saying this word at every single wedding for 1,400 years — and most people outside the Arabic-speaking world have been spelling it wrong the entire time.

Nikkah with a double K? That’s not just a typo. In Arabic, doubling the kaf with a shadda (ّ) literally changes the word to something else entirely — something you definitely do not want printed on your wedding invitation.

The correct word is Nikāḥ. One kaf. Long “aa.” Soft “h” at the end from the letter ح — not a hard stop.

Ni. KAAH.

And the word itself? It comes from the root ن-ك-ح, used in the Quran in Surah al-Nur: “Marry off the unmarried among you.” It is the precise Islamic legal term for the marriage contract — one of the most sacred institutions in the deen.

Say it right. Spell it right. And maybe share this with whoever designed your wedding card.

Reminders from today’s Jummah bayan by Imam

We have more than our ancestors could have dreamed of, yet we are more restless than ever. The reason? We’ve made the lives of others the qiblah of our hearts.
Comparison steals your gratitude before it steals your happiness. The moment you begin measuring your life against someone else’s highlight reel, you stop tasting what Allah has already placed in your hands.

The cure isn’t to stop striving. It’s to anchor your heart.

Qana’ah. Dhikr. Shukr.

May Allah purify our hearts from envy, replace our restlessness with sakīnah, and help us see the immense blessings He has already written for us. Ameen.

*Daily Maqra’a + Weekly Salawat*

Assalamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

Starting today, we will be holding the following consistently after ‘Isha at ZF:
• Daily: Sūrah Al-Mulk (Maqrā’a)
• Every Thursday: Salawāt & Durūd gathering

Both are brief, structured, and rooted in established Sunnah practices.

Join us after ‘Isha and make it part of your routine.

A maqraʾa is a structured, collective recitation of the Qur’an.

Traditionally, it involves:
• A group sitting together in a circle
• Each person reciting a portion in sequence or one reciter while others follow
• The recitation moving steadily until a set portion (or completion) is reached
• Sometimes brief corrections, but the focus is consistency and collective engagement

It was a well-known practice in many Muslim lands especially in masājid where people would gather daily or weekly to maintain a living relationship with the Qur’an through regular, communal recitation.

In our case, the daily Sūrah al-Mulk maqraʾa is simple:
After ‘Isha, recite together with one person leading, and complete the surah as a group.

In this week’s tafsir, we reflected on the opening verses of Surah Ash-Shams.

The sun. The moon. The day. The night. The sky. The earth.

All of them point to a world created with balance, precision, and purpose.

And if everything around us is so carefully ordered, then our souls were not created without order either.
