“I exhort the international community to mobilize greater humanitarian assistance support for vulnerable families and communities in Nepal,” said Bishop A. Elias Zaidan, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on International Justice and Peace, commenting on the deadly flashfloods in Nepal.

Bishop Zaidan’s statement follows:

“As we learn more about the devastating flashfloods in Nepal, I offer the prayers and solidarity of the Catholic community in the United States for our brothers and sisters impacted by this disaster. I exhort the international community to mobilize greater humanitarian assistance support for vulnerable families and communities in Nepal. I also encourage long-term efforts to help affected communities rebuild their homes, livelihoods, and critical infrastructure.

“Catholic Relief Services, the international relief agency of the Church in the United States, is closely monitoring the emergency, and coordinating with Caritas Nepal and local partners to assess urgent needs and determine how best to support affected communities. We appreciate the partnership of the U.S. government in supporting CRS’ essential work in these communities. We are also grateful to hear that the U.S. Department of State is closely monitoring the situation and deploying key personnel to support response efforts.

“May the Immaculate Heart of Mary provide consolation and shelter to all those affected by this disaster, and may she inspire the international community to work together, as one family, to address the urgent needs of the Nepalese people.”

Les invito a unirse a mí en oración por el pueblo de Nepal, tras las devastadoras inundaciones que han cobrado tantas vidas y han dejado a cientos de personas desaparecidas. Me uno al Santo Padre al encomendar las almas de quienes han fallecido a la misericordia de Dios y al ofrecer mis más sinceras condolencias a sus familias.

Catholic Charities Traveling Storytelling Museum
in Oklahoma City this weekend!

Make plans to visit the Traveling Storytelling Museum while it is in Oklahoma City on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Together Square, 400 W. Sheridan Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK.

One feature of the Traveling Museum is an inspirational story by Angela Holloway of the Woodward Catholic Charities office. With support from Catholic Charities and the community, she helped a local resident move from tragedy to stability by finding and furnishing a home, giving her the opportunity to live independently. Angela’s story is also featured in a book that reached Pope Leo XIV. By donating to Catholic Charities, we help make a difference in the lives of those who are suffering.
