Calvary Chapel Arise Our Vision: Helping People Trust & Follow Jesus

05/29/2026

In a recent Intentional Life Class (Saturday Nights, Except 2nd Saturdays), Pastor Dean gave us a general overview of the entire New Testament and revealed this Truth that we see in the New Testament; that Jesus is a the Red Thread that runs through the entire Bible, Beginning to End, and that He wants us to know, trust, and follow Him.

John 1:1–5 (NLT)
1 In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He existed in the beginning with God. 3 God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. 4 The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

_
Genesis 1:1–3 (NLT)
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. 3 Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

_
Revelation 22:12, 20-21 (NLT)
12 (Jesus speaking to John) “Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds.
_
20 He who is the faithful witness to all these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus! 21 May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s holy people.

As we seek to understand our place in life, in the faith, and in the church body, remember that we are each individuals and simultaneously members of one body. Paul illustrates this in comparison to a human body using the Greek word: "soma" which literally means a human body.
Each individual Christian within their local community of believers is like a part of that body, each having unique gifts and unique needs; a hand can wash, a foot can travel, an ear can hear, and none of them are a fully expressed body on their own.
Likewise, we need each other and we are blessed to serve each other's unique needs with our unique gifts through humility; which is recognizing the value of the other members.

_
Romans 12:4–5 (NLT)
4 Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, 5 so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.

It's ALMOST that time again! The "Adopt a Teacher" and "Back to School Backpack Drive" are on the horizon! More details will follow in the June Church Newsletter and Service Announcements, but you can begin planning right now! We will have at least 2 paths for supporting our local students and teachers this year:

_
1.) "Adopt a Teacher" is a $30 gift you make to a specific local teacher and a commitment to pray for them throughout the school year. They will use your $30 gift card to buy supplies, so gift cards from Amazon, Walmart, or Target are suggested.

_
2.) The "Back to School Backpack Drive" will be providing backpacks full of school supplies for local students in need. Many of the local students in our Wittmann schools are desperately in need of simple school supplies that our school system isn't able to provide, so this is a powerful way to impact local students by helping to meet their needs! You can begin buying new backpacks and school supplies, now, but specific items will be suggested in the Calvary Chapel ARISE Newsletter, after June 1st.

If you have questions, please grab Barbara Bowman or Steve Garner at church!

If we can find that true, authentic, biblical humility, that doesn't merely self-depricate, but correctly recognizes the full value of others, we will have a much easier time following Jesus in this life.

Original Language Bonus:
While the NLT English translation of Romans 12:3 uses the plural "yourselves" to fit our modern grammar structure, the original Greek word: "hekasto" is written in the singular form. The apostle Paul's instruction is to measure our own humility, _each of us_, individually. We're not being commanded to measure our brothers' and sisters' humility.

_
Romans 12:3 (NLT)
3 Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.

OUR ASK FOR THE WEEK:
Father, we ask You to help us seek humility as a people and to keep our eyes on You as we go through this life, that we may be an effective body, an effective community, and an effective family that lives to glorify You while we live in this broken world.

_
OUR SCRIPTURE:
Romans 12:3–5 (NLT)
3 Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us. 4 Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, 5 so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.
