St. John's Lutheran Church - Winsted, MN Served by Christ - Made Servant Hearted, To Shine Like Stars! For by grace you have been saved through faith. (Ephesians 2:4-10 ESV)

A member congregation of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable rich

es of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Bible Reading:
“Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” – Jeremiah 17:7-8, NIV

Let’s Pray:

Dear God, as I walk through these woods, I see the quiet strength of the trees around me. I realize how much I want to trust you as much as they do. They stand steady through storms because their roots reach toward the water. I want my heart to be rooted in you, the Living Water who sustains and renews me.

Teach me to trust you more deeply each day. When worries try to pull my attention away, help me remember that you’re the source of my strength and peace. Grow my faith beneath the surface of my life, the way roots grow beneath the soil. When challenging seasons come, keep my faith steady and my hope alive. Help me draw closer to you regularly, just as trees draw water from streams. As my trust in you grows deeper, let my life become strong and fruitful.

Thank you, God. Amen.

Bible Reading:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23)

Let's Pray:

Dear Holy Spirit,

I do not do well with self-control. I tend to get angry over trivial things and lash out at people. I also have problems with spending money on things I don't need and restraining the impulses of the sinful flesh. Please help me to begin cultivating self-control today. Living a life without self-control has only hindered my walk with Christ. Bless me with the ability to have mastery over my desires, impulses, habits, and wants.

The only thing that truly brings me joy is walking in accordance with the Bible. Walking in alignment with the sinful flesh has only left me feeling empty and crestfallen. Provide me with opportunities to develop self-control and help me to overcome any desires, impulses, or challenges. I trust that You can do all these things and even more.

In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.

Bible Verse

Philippians 2:3–4

[3] Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. [4] Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. (ESV)

Let’s Pray:

Heavenly Father,

There are so many days when I feel drained and weak, but truthfully, that is exactly where You want me so that I can fully rely on Your strength and not my own. Lord, Jesus, You do not call me to “pull up my bootstraps” or “grit my teeth and bear it.” You call me to live by the power of Your Spirit, who empowers me to walk in obedience and humility.

Thank You for showing me what great sacrifice looks like. Christ laid down His life for me; may I live to lay down my life for Him by serving others and preferring others above myself.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

Philippians 2:6–8

[6] who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, [7] but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. [8] And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. (ESV)

Let’s Pray:

Savior, I am amazed by Your choice to enter this broken world, taking the curse of sin upon Yourself, to save all people. Who am I that I should receive such love? You died for me even though I have hurt You by choosing to do wrong, and, even now, I often turn away when I need You the most. Why then, Lord, do I struggle to love those around me, regardless of their past and flaws? Am I not equally guilty as they are of breaking a heart or uttering a careless word?

Work in me to produce the fruit of love–sacrificial and wildly generous love that seeks nothing other than to reflect the love You have given me. Produce in me by Your Spirit a new way of life that is marked by grace and mercy. And to love, even when it’s hard.

In Your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Thank you to everyone that attended Campfire Church last night. Special thanks goes to Danny and Dakoda for sharing the bible story of Daniel in the Lions Den. We enjoyed the re-enactment by the Heller children. It was a beautiful evening of fellowship.

Campfire church is held every Wednedsday June - August at 6:30 pm. We will have a bible story, some discussion, and a couple of songs by the campfire. Please bring a comfy chair to sit in and a snack to share around the fire.

Bible Reading:
But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. — Luke 5:16

Let’s Pray:

Dear God, I’m not always comfortable with why I want to be alone or why I don’t. I tend to judge myself on how well I interact with others, more often than I allow myself to interact with you in a quiet place of solitude. I don’t understand why the world seems so loud, and my life feels so full and demanding that I can't prioritize time alone. Please help me to reprioritize sitting in silence with you.

Help me not to feel anxious when I'm alone, as though I need to replace quiet with productivity or errands to distract my focus from you. Help me reestablish the practice of withdrawing alone to refill myself with your guidance and presence. Thank you for the gift of Jesus, who shows us that solitude is a necessity, not just a luxury. Help me to understand that being alone is not lonely at all.

In Jesus mighty name, Amen.

Bible Reading:
“Whoever heeds life-giving correction will be at home among the wise. Those who disregard discipline despise themselves, but the one who heeds correction gains understanding” (Proverbs 15:31-32).

Let's Pray:

Dear God, criticism is not something that I enjoy. Like many people, it makes me feel bad about myself. It also triggers many memories from when I was younger, and my parents were overly critical of me. Please help me to learn to accept criticism and to grow from it. Equip my heart to remain strong when others criticize me. I want to take it in stride and to listen to the wise.

While I know it might still hurt me at times, I know You can help me overcome the pain and disappointment. I trust that You can guide my heart to the way of wisdom rather than ignoring the ways of the wise. Thank You, God, for always hearing my prayers.

In Your Son’s Name, I pray, Amen.
