Sunday, May 31st, we were honored to have Bro. Dick Debusk, Director of Missions from Grant Parish, as our guest speaker. His message was from Acts 13:1-3, recounting how Paul and Barnabas were chosen to be the first two Christian missionaries. God chooses you and me to go to our neighbors and share the love of Christ, but we have to choose Him before we can be effective witnesses for Him. One way we learn what God wants us to do and be is by setting aside a daily time to read and meditate on the Word of God. That changes us into the person He wants us to be from the inside out. He wants to use us to share the Good News about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, His only Son (John 3:16). Jesus said, "I am the bread of life. He who believes in Me has eternal life (John 6:47-48)." "I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly (John 10:10)." Jesus is the bread of eternal life in heaven, not just the source of abundant life here on earth (John 10:10). Our Heavenly Father wants us to share this Good News about His saving grace with all we come into contact with.

Calvin Baptist Church will be having a Men's Retreat on June 19th at 6:00 p.m. It will be an awesome time you will always remember.

We would love for you to join us for worship and fellowship on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m., and on Sundays at 9:45 a.m. for Sunday school and at 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. for Bible study.

Sunday morning, May 3rd, Shane Hyde led us in making a joyful noise to the Lord singing "Heaven's Jubilee," "Victory in Jesus," "Mansion Over the Hilltop," and "I'm Bound for the Kingdom." The church celebrated Fran Johnson's and Eason Hyde's birthday singing "Happy Birthday" to them. We were blessed to have baby Kinslee Faye Hyde, a precious gift from God, born on April 21st with us for the first time and her parents Lucas and Kayden Hyde.

We were honored to have Bro. Jared Little bring the message from Matthew 3:11. "Hope in God is a decision. Either Christians continue trusting in their own strength or what others may offer, or they reject a reliance on humans and resolve to hope in God (Dr. David Jeremiah)." Man is limited to what he can do. We need to lean on the arms of Jesus Christ and come to God, allowing Him to guide us every day. Without the Holy Spirit leading us every day, we fall short of the glory of God in all that we attempt to do. Jesus, the Creator and Sustainer of life, can do all things. He can empower us through the Holy Spirit if we allow Him to. One of our favorite memory verses is "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13) When we allow the Holy Spirit to lead us, God can use us to do powerful things. If we are obedient to what God says and His calling, He will equip us to do whatever He calls us to do. We don't need to fear what man can do to us because "greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world". Jesus said He would be with us always even to the end of the age (Matthew 28:20).

After the morning worship service, Stacy and Fran Johnson cooked taco soup for the church. We had a wonderful time of fellowship celebrating her birthday and a super delicious meal. Thank you Stacy and Fran and all those who brought their favorite recipes.

Sunday evening we sang favorite hymns and learned new ones. Bro. Little's message came from Isaiah 14:12-14. We need to be alert and of a sober mind. Our enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for those he can devour (1 Peter 5:8). He knows his time is short and wants to take as many people as possible to hell with him. We can defeat him by reading the Word of God and praying to God, quoting the words of the Bible as Jesus did when He was tempted 40 days and 40 nights in the wilderness. Jesus was tempted in every way that we are tempted but was without sin. He can sympathize with us when we are faced with temptation and strengthen us to resist temptation. Jesus told His disciples in the Lord's prayer "lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever." (Matthew 6:13) If you feel you are being attacked by Satan or one of his demons, all you need to do is call out the name of Jesus Christ and he will flee from you. "Resist the devil and he will flee from you." (James 4:7) God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. When we submit to God's control, we draw near to Him and He draws near to us and protects and guides us in the way He would have us go.

If you are looking for a church home, you will find a loving and caring church family at Lakeside Baptist Church.

During the Sunday morning worship service, Bro. Glynn Jones led us in singing favorite hymns "Nothing But the Blood," "Trust and Obey," "There Is Power in the Blood, and 'Tis So Sweet To Trust in Jesus." He warned us that we have to be careful in what we trust today with scams and deceptions, and those who use AI to deceive us. We can always trust in Jesus to guide us, protect us, and provide for all of our needs. We were blessed to have a guest pastor, Bro. Teddie Sharbano, bring the message from Hebrews 1:1-14. He asked us who Jesus is. He is our Savior, Lord, the long-awaited Messiah, Lord of Lords and King of Kings, 100 percent God and 100 percent man, our bread of life, living water, creator of all that exists, sustainer of life, the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. Are we subject to our Lord, to ourselves, or the world? God gave man free will. We can choose to believe that Christ is God's only Son and have a relationship with Him, which leads to eternal life with Him, or we can deny Him and be separated from God forever.

It is the father's job to bring his family to God. He needs to stand up and be the spiritual leader in his family. We need to let Christ guide us every day. God speaks to us through the Bible and the Holy Spirit that lives within those who have received Jesus as their Savior. His still small voice will guide us and direct us in the way we should go, if we allow Him to. He created everything and is the heir of everything. As children of God, we are heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ. Our job is to witness those we come into contact with wherever we go. It's not God's will that any should perish.

Sunday evening, we sang our favorite hymns. Bro. Sharbano blessed us by singing "What a Day That Will Be". Bro. Sharbano's message was based on Psalm 150. We are to praise the Lord every hour of every day, wherever we go, because of His power and character. God is more powerful than anything. He controls everything and has always been active in men's lives from the beginning of time. God is love. Whatever matters to us matters to God because He loves us. He cares about our every need, no matter how small it may be. We should praise God with all our heart, mind, and soul. "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord (Psalm 150:6)."

Sunday morning, April 13, Bro. Glynn Jones led the congregation singing "The Old Rugged Cross," "The Blood That Stained the Old Rugged Cross," "Victory in Jesus," and "I Want To Be Ready To Meet Him" reminding us of the great sacrifice Jesus made for each one of us. Bro. Ted Sharbano's message was from John 14:1-15. We have a Savior who is alive forever more. There is life after death. Death is not the end. If you repent of your sins and believe that Jesus is the Son of God, you will be with Him throughout all eternity. Jesus said, "Let not your heart be troubled, you believe in God, believe also in Me. In my Father's house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also." (John 14:1-3) If you don't believe that Jesus is the Son of God, you will be separated from God tormented in Hell forever. Good works will not save you.

We need to have a spiritual awakening in America. We need to resist the devil by God's Holy Word as Jesus did when He was tempted in every way that we are tempted in the forty days and nights He spent in the desert without food. We need to take a stand for what is right and good in the sight of the Lord. We will be hated and persecuted for shining His light in the darkness. We only need to remember that Jesus will be with us always and deliver us from the storms of earth's final age. He will help us be His witnesses by His power through His Holy Spirit. Always remember that He has promised to be with us always.

During the Sunday evening worship service we sang our favorite hymns. Special songs were shared with us by Shane Hyde who sang "I Saw the Light," and Ted Sharbano who sang "In the Garden." Bro. Sharbano's message came from 1 Peter 2:1-12. Bro. Sharbano asked us a thought provoking question. "What is hindering us from growing in the Lord?" If we dwell on the cares of the world in our life, they will choke out the Word of God. The desires to get ahead causes unfaithfulness and we become unfruitful if we neglect God's Word. Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – is not of the Father but is of the world (1 John 15:16-17). Satan tempted Adam and Eve (Gen. 3) and Jesus (Luke 4:1-13) in these ways and he uses the same tactics in his attempts to turn ever believer away from God. We will grow in the Lord if we put Him first and meditate on His Word daily, obeying Him for He loves us and wants the best for us. People will see Jesus either as one who offends their personal freedom or as one who frees them of sin and is worthy of their worship and obedience. Truth offends those who do not want to hear it, but to the growing believer, it is life! We are called to witness to the world that God's mercy, forgiveness, and love is available to all who turn to Him and away from sin and believe that Jesus is the Son of God and our Lord and Savior.

Sunday, March 29, Bro. Glynn Jones led the church family in singing favorite praise hymns. Bro. Dennis Gourdon blessed us with a special revision he made of Don Williams' song "You're My Best Friend". Our guest pastor, Bro. Teddie Sarbano's message came from John 2:13-25 describing three of the many characteristics of Jesus – anger, mission, and appeal. "The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He has not dealt with us according to our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that revere Him. He will not always keep His anger forever (Psalm 103:8-11)." Jesus' righteous anger was displayed when He cleansed the temple of the money changers' dishonesty and their disregard for the purpose of the temple – worship. He told his disciples that he desired mercy and not sacrifice (Matthew 9:13).

Jesus' appeal to the scribes and pharisees, as it is for us today, is to worship the Lord in Spirit and in Truth. Jesus' mission was to seek and to save the lost. He has challenged us to go into a lost and dying world to share His love and compassion telling others what He has done for each one of us through his awful death on the cross. He will guide us and empower us to achieve this goal by the Holy Spirit that lives in every one who repent of our sins and believe that He is the Son of God.

Sunday evening many of us went to Hurricane Creek Baptist Church's fifth Sunday sing. There were young ladies' who sang and "signed" hymns. The youth in the church performed an Easter skit. Talented singers from many churches in the surrounding area blessed us singing praise hymns. We also enjoyed special food and fellowship after the song service. If you would like to share in this special time of worship, the next fifth Sunday sing at Hurricane Creek Baptist Church will be on April 31st.

We will have an Easter sunrise service next Sunday at 7:00 AM. All are invited to come and share in celebrating this special time of year with our church family. You will be blessed.
