Our first week of Summer Camp was full of fun, learning, and new experiences!

On Tuesday, the kids enjoyed art class with Mrs. Elizabeth, where they learned about the color wheel and explored how colors work together. Our Pre-K through 2nd grade campers also enjoyed roasting marshmallows and making s’mores with Mrs. Pat Thurmon.

Wednesday brought a special visit to the library for a Snake ID program. The children learned fascinating facts about snakes, and even some of our most hesitant campers found the courage to pet one!

On Thursday, our older girls participated in a cooking class where they prepared green beans, chicken spaghetti, and garlic bread while learning kitchen safety, handwashing, knife skills, and how to follow a recipe.

We are so proud of our campers for their enthusiasm and willingness to try new things. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer has in store!

Part 2 of 2 Mock Trial
Colton Sandifer vs Della Etheridge
Our next thank you goes to Judge Anastasia Wiley and her incredible team at the courthouse! This was our second year putting on a mock trial, and it was the best one yet.
From start to finish, they made the experience engaging, hands on, and truly memorable for our students. The kids were able to step into real roles; lawyers, judges, clerks, bailiffs and jury. They learned firsthand how the judicial system works in a way that just can’t be taught from a book.
Because of your time, patience, and willingness to pour into our program, our students walked away with a deeper understanding of responsibility, consequences, and how our justice system serves the community.
We cannot say it enough, We are so thankful for community leaders who open their doors, share their knowledge, and help create meaningful learning experiences our kids will never forget!

Part 1 of 2 Mock Trial

We want to give a huge thank you to Sheriff Josh McAllister and Deputy Mike Gilliam for spending time with our students and continuing the lessons we’ve been working on. They reinforced the importance of calling 911 in an emergency and helped students better understand the role law enforcement plays in keeping our community safe.
They also went the extra mile to help us kick off our mock trial by “arresting” Colton, who stood trial for stealing Della Jean’s lunch. It was such a fun and memorable way to bring the lesson to life and get everyone engaged.
We are so thankful for community leaders who take time out of their day to invest in our kids!

Learning Tree had a very exciting Monday!
We had the opportunity to visit with Sheriff Josh McAllister, who talked with the kids about important safety basics like knowing their address, when to call 911, and who to go to if they ever feel uncomfortable. We are so thankful for community leaders who take the time to invest in and connect with our kids.

Later, Madison from Mad Labs led an awesome hands-on science activity. The kids learned how to extract DNA from a strawberry. It was such a fun and engaging way to bring science to life! We appreciate Mad Labs so much for coming in and fully embracing the fun, curious chaos that is Learning Tree!

We were so excited to be able to bring the Learning Tree children to celebrate the grand opening of the new Winn Community Health Clinic! Moments like this matter. It’s more than just a new building, it’s an investment in the health, growth, and future of our entire community.

It is so important for our kids to see what positive change looks like. Letting them attend and be part of something new and meaningful helps them understand the value of caring for others and the importance of supporting their community. We all have to take pride in where we live and these are lessons that go far beyond the classroom.

Our students are also incredibly fortunate to already benefit from the in-school clinics run by Mr. Deano. Having access to care right at school makes a real difference for so many families, and it’s a blessing we don’t take for granted. Seeing healthcare in action, both in the schools and in our community, helps make it all feel real and important to them.

We’re grateful to be part of a community that continues to grow and pour into its people, especially our children. The future is brighter because of business like this.

Monday was such a special day for our Learning Tree group! We had an amazing Easter egg hunt followed by a sugar loaded party. The kids had the best time searching for eggs and, of course, enjoying all the sweet treats at the party!
