From Mandy: Sunday was a day full of worship and fellowship. We were able to attend a Southern Baptist church service that was nothing like any of us have ever attended! That Pastor wasn't puttin' anyone to sleep!
Then, we were blessed with a potluck lunch from a lot of our UUMC congregation.
After our bellies were full, we headed off for some fishing and swimming. Our night ended with us getting a tour of our 1st mission: FriendShips. Absolutely nothing like any of us expect. Gabe gave us a tour of the ship we are sleeping on. Tomorrow is filled with lots of unknowns. But we know, just like Joshua and Caleb, we will remain faithful and know God's got our backs!

Our group has made it to the hotel and all are settled in for the night. Thanks be to God!

Our youth and leaders departed from church this morning and made it to their lunch stop at Starved Rock State Park in IL. Thank you to the volunteers who packed the lunches and wrote out cards for them. Please pray they arrive safely at the hotel in MO tonight!

Today we celebrate Pentecost. A day that is connected with God’s covenant to Israel and also Jesus’ covenant to us. I don’t think that is a coincidence. God’s love is for all people.

The story of Pentecost found in Act 2. And our Gospel reading in John 7 are all about God’s power coming upon all people. That means you!

God will work within us when we surrender to His desire for us. This seems complicated. It really means loving God. And loving your neighbor (as you would want them to love you!)

May the Spirit continue to lead and guide each of us. And may we discover how to bring love to everyone we encounter.

This is what Pentecost calls us to. This is who God is.

Jesus gives us words about identity in today’s reading. Who we are. Whose we are.

That matters more than we let on. Our identity can be shaken in our lives. It probably will be. We go from one job to another, or a strained relationship changes our role, or a set back creates a new identity.

For me, I’ve gone from the young new Pastor at Lord of the Lakes to ….. not that.

Things change and the world goes with it. And all along the way there is One who is faithful

And that matters because? Well because His love sustains us in all circumstances. When we walk with Him we are united in love and life becomes better.

Wherever you find yourself in your journey with God today, you are reminded that perfect love calls you to follow. There is a choice in that. Follow or don’t.

May we stick with the One who gave up everything for us.

Happy Mother’s Day! What a sacrifice mother’s make for their families. Thank you.



Today’s text tells us to keep Jesus’ commandments. Ok.

What are they? Thankfully, someone once asked Jesus what the greatest commandment is. And His response was Love God and Love your Neighbor. That is what we are called to. That’s of course not hard to understand but is much more difficult to do. Especially when it requires self-sacrifice. (Ask your mother.)

Thankfully in today’s reading we are told that God will help us with this. The Holy Spirit will be alive within us. The Holy Spirit will soften our hearts and help us love others.

Our perspective makes all the difference in how we live. And God’s Spirit gives us eyes to see.
