SONGS FOR THE SOUL - A song of FORGIVENESS
Gospel Reading - Matthew 18:15-20 - Christian Discipline

Songs are a meaningful part of our walk with God. They always have been. The Israelites sang a song of praise to God after he rescued them from slavery. David regularly sang. Jesus and his disciples often sang hymns and psalms together. Paul and Silas sang while in prison. Most Christians today have their favorite songs or hymns. They inspire us. They comfort us.

The book of Psalms is the Bible's songbook. The music for these songs has not been preserved over time. But their words, which communicate the deep, emotional, and foundational truths of life, humanity, and God have been.

This month, we will focus on just a few of the 150 psalms, meditating on their timeless messages to be inspired and comforted by God.

In this service, we will focus on Psalm 32 and be reminded that when the guilty heart cries out for forgiveness, God grants it. Always. Every time.

Jesus Helps THE SUFFERING

It’s comforting that Jesus came to help everyone. But it’s important to recognize that Jesus came to help every one.

No two people are the same. Their life experiences, their burdens, their worries and opportunities are all unique.

Your life is unique.

Jesus knows that. His promise to help applies to your unique life.

During the month of August we will look at specific times Jesus helped people with unique challenges as a way to remember that Jesus will help you with yours.

In this service, we conclude our August series by considering a curious aspect of the Christian life – the joy we find in sharing in the sufferings of Christ. Both the Apostles Paul and Peter remarked how blessed we are when we participate in the types of sufferings Christ endured. Why? Because our times of suffering bring us closer to Christ and the comfort and strength we can only find in him. We don’t desire suffering, but there is great comfort for Christians when we experience it.

Jesus Helps THE CONFUSED

It’s comforting that Jesus came to help everyone. But it’s important to recognize that Jesus came to help every one.

No two people are the same. Their life experiences, their burdens, their worries and opportunities are all unique.

Your life is unique.

Jesus knows that. His promise to help applies to your unique life.

During the month of August we will look at specific times Jesus helped people with unique challenges as a way to remember that Jesus will help you with yours.

In this service, we examine how Jesus addresses what is often a source of incredible frustration for Christians – the blatant unbelief of the world. Why are there so many different views of who Jesus is? Why is there so much opposition to his teachings? And, most importantly, what can we do about it?

Jesus helps us here by reminding us that he sees the same things, and he already knows how to help both those who believe in him and also those who don’t yet know how much they need him.

Philippians is called “the book of joy” because the Apostle Paul is so obviously full of joy as he’s writing it. The book isn’t written from the air-conditioned comfort of Paul’s home, however. He’s writing it while he’s imprisoned for sharing his faith. Life was hard for Paul, yet he was full of joy. How we can find joy, even when the circumstances of our life are difficult, is what God teaches us in the book of Philippians.

Join us this Wednesday, August 12th, as we begin this new study of God’s Word!
