On the 25th anniversary of 9/11, we remember the lives lost and hold all who mourn in prayer.

In the days following 9/11, our global Lutheran partners shared words of prayer and solidarity:

"We join you in the spiritual battle and prayer for forgiveness and love knowing that the battle is not ours but God's, and that the truth and God's victory will always prevail." —LWF Regional Office for Africa (Kenya)

"May there be ways to comfort the mourners as well as the survivors, and may the church be part of that work. May all the deceased rest in peace." —Church of Sweden

Back to school can be an exciting, but also stressful time. For parents, navigating new schedules can create worry about accomplishing all of the goals set for the day and week. For kids, nervousness can stem from a variety of changes: a transition to a new grade level or school, friend group changes and new teachers, or a sudden shift in routine.

In the middle of change, we can hold onto the same hope God gave His people centuries ago: “For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope” (Jeremiah 29:11 NRSVUE).

He won’t remove every challenge immediately, but the Lord will be with you and will give you the tools to navigate these changes. Join us this Sunday at 9:30 AM as we return to our standard service schedule. Following service, we have our Rally Day kickoff for Sunday School!

Labor Day is a great time to reflect on God’s intention for work in our lives. Work can be challenging, even if you love what you do. However, we’re each blessed with skills that can make a difference in others’ lives.

Colossians 3:23-24 NRSVUE reminds us: “Whatever task you must do, work as if your soul depends on it, as for the Lord and not for humans, since you know that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward; you serve the Lord Christ.”

Would you try to build a skyscraper with only your bare hands? If you want to follow Jesus’ blueprint and build with the materials we talked about last week, it will help if you have the right tools. Prayer (James 5:16 NRSVUE), reading scripture (2 Timothy 3:16), and community (Deuteronomy 15:7) are some tools you can use to build faithfulness, peace, self-control, righteousness, generosity, and kindness, among others, into your life.

Jesus’ blueprint for life comes with a bill of materials. If you want a structure to be built to last – think of a house, skyscraper, or a life – each component must work together to hold the weight of the whole thing. The materials will be put to the test at some point similar to the test of fire Paul describes in 1 Corinthians 3:12-15 NRSVUE. What sort of qualities can hold that weight? Galatians 5:22-23 gives us a list of those qualities: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Build your life on Jesus’ foundation with those qualities – it will have the best chance of withstanding any test. Let’s use our service this Sunday at 10 am to put these qualities into practice!
