A devotional thought from
Pastor Elliot Lee:
Have you ever tried to keep something hidden in your life? Adam and Eve so long ago were tricked into sin (Genesis 3), and then tried to hide from God. Not that anyone can really hide from God, but they felt ashamed and tried to hide anyway. In our lives, we too are tempted to feel ashamed and to hide when we struggle with sins and weaknesses that society has declared uncool. Got a problem with alcohol? Gotta hide it! Got a problem with a bad temper? Can’t let that show!
Now, it’s OK not to share your issues with the whole world, but you should still find someone to share your struggles with and to ask for help. The first One we should go to is the Lord:
“Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you. He will never permit the righteous to be moved.” (Psalm 55:22)
God knows exactly what you think and how you feel; He can read your mind, understand what’s going on, and know how best to help you. The One who created you truly wants the best for you. You don’t need to hide from Him – let Him find you today. Prayer is the privilege of opening your heart to your Best Friend. Take advantage of that always-on connection!
God also frequently puts other people in our lives to help comfort and guide us - people like family, friends, teachers, and pastors. It’s easy to want to hide things from them too, but isolating yourself like Adam and Eve did ends badly. If you know someone will tell you the truth and cares about you, then it’s not worth hiding your problems from them. Let God use them in your life.
And if you think you have your life all together (or even if you don’t), try helping someone else lift their burdens. Burdens become lighter as they are shared. “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2)
