A simple croissant from the farmers market transported Fr. McCreary back to Paris.

Food has a remarkable power. A familiar aroma, taste, or texture can awaken memories from years—even decades—ago. It nourishes more than our bodies; it connects us to people, places, and experiences.

In this weekend's readings, Moses reminds God's people that while the manna in the desert sustained them physically, "we do not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God."

That Word is not merely written on a page. As St. John tells us, "In the beginning was the Word"—and that Word is Jesus Christ.

Every time we come to the altar, we encounter Him. In the Eucharist, what appears to be bread and wine draws us into something far greater. We are united across all space and time with Christ Himself, sharing in the mystery of His death and resurrection.

Just as food can transport us to treasured memories, the Eucharist transports us into the living reality of God's saving love.

May we receive Him with open hearts, become His presence in the world, and continue His mission until the day we join Him fully in the Kingdom of God.

"Come join us."

Those simple words carry a powerful message: You matter. We want to know you. We want a relationship with you.

In this Sunday's readings, Moses extends a remarkable invitation to God Himself: "Come along with us on our journey." And in response, God reveals more of who He is — merciful, compassionate, patient, and ready to forgive.

Yet Moses only glimpsed part of the picture.
The fullness of God's identity would not be revealed until Jesus Christ entered our world, died on the Cross, rose from the dead, and sent the Holy Spirit. In Christ, we come to know God not as distant or detached, but as a communion of love: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The mystery of the Trinity shows us that relationship is at the very heart of God. And because we are made in God's image and likeness, relationship is at the heart of who we are, too.

Through Baptism, the Eucharist, and the grace of the sacraments, God continually draws us into His divine life.

Every time we make the Sign of the Cross, we proclaim not only who God is, but who we are: people created for love, community, family, and communion with Him.

This week, may we help everyone we encounter come to know the God of love.

“I will always use whatever gift is given to me.”

Fr. McCreary reflected this weekend on how sad it would be to leave a gift unopened, unused, tucked away for “someday.”

After his grandfather died, the family discovered gifts stored all throughout the house — still in their packages, never used. Not because they weren’t appreciated, but because that generation understood sacrifice and hated wasting anything.

And yet, a gift is meant to be used.

The same is true of the greatest gift God gives us: the Holy Spirit.

The Spirit — the eternal love between the Father and the Son — was poured out upon Mary, the Apostles, and now upon the whole world. A precious gift given to us at Baptism and strengthened in Confirmation.

Not something to lock away.
Not something to save for later.
But something meant to breathe through our lives now.

Who will believe in Jesus today because of the way we live?

Who will experience mercy, peace, love, and justice because we allowed the Holy Spirit not only to breathe in us, but through us into a broken world?

Come, Holy Spirit 🕊️🔥
