Good News Bible Church

Good News Bible Church We believe that what we do flows from who we are. This is what the Bible calls The Gospel, or The Good News. This relationship with Him changes everything.

WHO ARE WE?:
Good News Bible Church is an independent, evangelical, non-denominational gathering of people who are learning what it means to walk by faith - in life and in their relationship with Jesus. The Bible teaching at GNBC, rather than focusing on a list of rules we must obey, places the emphasis on Jesus and His Grace. We believe He gives us a new identity and a healed, life-giving relatio

nship with God. When you ‘come home to Good News’ you will discover that we are a diverse biblical community. You will encounter followers of Jesus, as well as seekers and doubters. Everyone is welcome. Our desire is that you would come, see and experience Jesus and His Grace being noticeably lived out at Good News. OUR MISSION:
The mission of Good News Bible Church is to lead growing numbers of people to enjoy a grace-filled, loving relationship with Jesus; rejecting the idea that a life with Jesus is focused on a list of rules we have to follow to earn God's favor. Ephesians 2:8-9
"For it is by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." In short, we are 'Turning People Toward Grace'.

“Don’t lean on your own understanding.”

You can’t make great decisions on your own. The final decision is yours. The question is, who are you leaning on to make it?

Trusting others essential to life. You trust your dentist to help with dental decisions. You make the decision. You live with the consequences.

When Solomon became king, David challenged him to, “… serve God with a willing mind.”

God isn’t going to make decisions for you. When choosing a path, seek instruction from the Word with a willing mind.

The advantage: “He will make your paths straight.”

Proverbs 3:3a
“Never let truth and mercy leave you.”

Too much truth makes you a bull in a china shop.
People walk on you when you have too much mercy.

Truth and mercy complete each other.

Angry people often have too much mercy. Untended issues escalate. Eventually, they boil over. Often blame accompanies anger.

Speaking the truth sooner prevents stress.
(Even though it feels stressful to do it.)

Solomon said, “Enjoy what you have rather than desiring what you don’t have. Just dreaming about nice things is meaningless—like chasing the wind.” Ecclesiastes 6:9

The life you wish you had is destroying the life you have.

Don’t let the career you wish you had corrupt the job you have.

Don’t let the family you wish you had ruin the one you have.

Don’t let imagined enjoyments poison present joys.

“Envy makes the bones rot.” Proverbs 14:30

Envy is natural. Gratitude is an act of faith.

The word embrace is often used for the hug of love.

Esau embraced his brother.
“But Esau ran to meet him and EMBRACED him and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.” Genesis 33:4

Solomon caressed his bride.
“His left hand is under my head, and his right hand embraces me!” Song of Solomon 2:6

Solomon used the metaphor of physical affection in Proverbs.

Lady Wisdom seeks YOUR EMBRACE.

“And don’t grumble as some of them did, and then were destroyed by the angel of death.”
1 Corinthians 10:10

Grumblers are dissatisfied because they believe they deserve better.

1 Corinthians 10:10 refers to Israel’s complaints in Numbers 16:41ff.

They lived as victims even though they had been liberated from Egypt. They complained…

• “Why this food?”
• “Why this leader?”
• “Why this path?”

Not every complaint points to arrogance. Some expectations are legitimate. Patterns reveal reality.

Do you see patterns of gratitude or habitual complaining in your life?

The issue isn’t circumstances. It’s the heart.

What happens to you is secondary to what’s in your heart.

Proverbs 3:3–4
Do not let truth and mercy leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 Then you will find favor and a good reputation, in the sight of God and people.

The pinnacle of character is truth and mercy. When Jesus came, He was, “full of grace and truth.” John 1:14

Grace: Treat people better than they deserve. Allow space for people to grow and recover.

Truth: Name what is. Confront gaps. Refuse to pretend. Maintain high standards.

Grace without truth, people don’t respect you.
Truth without grace, people resent you.

Jesus asks Peter, “Do you love me more than these?” Everything else is secondary. Fishing is secondary. Nets and boats don’t matter compared to the ultimate question. (John 21:15)

He could have asked:

#1. Are you obedient?
#2. Did you read your Bible today?
#3. Did you put money in the offering?

Love is the heart of the matter. There is one focus in life, loving Jesus.

Peter says, “Yes, Lord, I love you.”

Jesus uses the highest word for love (agapao). Peter uses the word for brotherly love (phileo).

Here’s the shocker. Jesus accepts it. It’s less, but he says, “Feed my lambs.”

Peter has imperfect love. Jesus gives him responsibility anyway.

Jesus lowers his request in John 21:17. “Do you love me like a brother (phileo)?” Peter says, “I love you like a brother.”

Full Nets

The journey of Peter, James, and John began with fish. In Luke 5, Peter said, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing!” v. 5

The boat returns in John 21. Peter said, “I am going fishing.” v. 3 They worked all night. Empty nets.

“Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” John 21:6

In both stories Jesus, the carpenter, tell fishermen how to fish. And they filled their nets!

Jesus helped them succeed, not so they could keep fishing. He wanted them to abandon fishing for something greater.

Luke 5:10, “… from now on you will be catching men.”

Repeating success is failure when
there’s something greater for you.

What are you clinging to that holds you back?
