THIS THURSDAY: ALL ARE WELCOME COFFEE HOUR

We'd love for you to join us this Thursday (Sept. 10th) from 9 to 10am for our monthly coffee hour! This is an informal time to get together and talk over coffee (and often some fruit and baked goods)! Those of us who love conversations in smaller groups find that this is a great way to get to know others more deeply, share what's going on in our lives, and connect in meaningful ways.

Park in the back parking lot and come to the door on the right—we'll be in the fellowship lounge waiting! Would love for you to join us. Contact the church office or one of our pastors for more info.

Lots of smiling, familiar faces at the Wild Goose Festival in Harmony, NC this weekend! We had several WBC members in attendance and even leading sessions, sitting on panels, visiting with new and old friends, and definitely eating good food!

Big storms in the area this afternoon. Pray for safety for everyone still at the festival and for safe travels home.

STARTING THIS SUNDAY (Sept. 6, 9:30am)

We're excited to start a new book with our Sunday morning adult class: "Voices of Resistance: The Bible's Songs of Victory, Peace, and Protest," by Amanda C. Miller.

Plan to just show up this Sunday to discuss—no prior reading needed! We do have a few copies of the book we can share. You can also order a copy online or let us know if we can help get you a copy.

We have some other great opportunities coming up on our Adult Spiritual Formation schedule this fall... hope you'll make plans to join us! Sunday mornings, 9:30am in West Wing room 108!

Contact Art Wright or Haley Cawthon-Freels if you have questions.

HEAD’S UP FOR PARENTS AND FAMILIES: THIS SUNDAY

This Sunday (Sept. 6th), the final sermon in our “Everyday Spirituality” series will focus on s*x and s*xuality. Our pastor will acknowledge the existence of s*x and s*xual activity in his sermon, but will not describe it in any graphic detail. Younger children (under age 13) will leave the sanctuary and go to Children’s Church before the sermon, so they will not hear it. And we will not mention it beforehand in the service, except to read a short selection from the Song of Songs.

The goal of the sermon is to talk about what a healthy, honest, and biblical s*xual ethic might look like in the 21st century and to break down the stigma and shame that so many of us feel about s*xuality. We just want you to have a head’s up in advance so that you can make the best decisions for your family, especially if you have younger youth who may not leave the sanctuary for Children’s Church. We are going to do our best to approach this topic with honesty, integrity, and sensitivity, and we really are grateful for your trust.

ADULT CLASS IN AUGUST: "ART'S WRITINGS"

We'd love for you to join us for our Adult class this Sunday morning at 9:30am. August's topic is "Art's Writings," featuring some short articles, blogs, and newspaper features from our Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Art Wright!

This Sunday we'll be discussing "Crucifying Jesus and the Politics of Roman 'Justice.'" What do we mean when we say that crucifixion was political? Why was Jesus crucified in the first place? And how might the brutal violence of this method of ex*****on help us think more carefully about our own justice system today?

You can find all of the articles at the link below:

We encourage you to read the short article before Sunday morning and come prepared to discuss! But we'd love you to show up regardless.

Class starts at 9:30am in West Wing room 108. Enter from the parking lot, go up the short flight of stairs, and turn right down the hall!
