St. John's Episcopal-Lutheran

St. John's Episcopal-Lutheran Grounded in Christ’s love, St. John’s provides an atmosphere for all to explore their faith. At St. Our service is a reflection of our common life.

John's, Episcopalians and Lutherans worship together, along with all others Christians. We use a combination of rites, which helps us acknowledge the diversity in this Christian family, even as we celebrate our unity. The image on our page is a combining of the Episcopal shield and Luther’s seal (the flower), which is representative of our congregation. The shield is the symbol of the Episcopal

Church of America as adopted in 1940 by the General Convention. Martin Luther designed his seal in the 1500s as an expression of his theology. It has been used as a symbol of the Lutheran church throughout the world. Our motto is “Two in Heritage, One in Christ.” As one of the first churches in the nation to have a dual heritage, St John’s Episcopal-Lutheran Church received national attention for this novel approach.

Our member, Carol McElwain, has her Carrot Cake recipe as part of this week's Grand Canyon Synod newsletter, and the recipe is on the Synod's website. Click the image below to get Carols recipe for a different and delicious version of Carrot Cake and icing! The recipe will also be printed in a cookbook, Rooted at the Table, that will be given out at the Synod's Assembly in June in Mesa to everyone in attendance.

A beloved carrot cake recipe first shared in 1963 became a decades-long family tradition. Carol Lee McElwain now shares it so its story can continue with others.

Arizona Faith Network is heartbroken by the violence at the Islamic Center of San Diego. We mourn with the Muslim community, pray for those impacted, and stand in solidarity against hatred and violence in all forms.

No one should fear for their safety while gathering for worship or community. At a time of rising polarization and extremism, we reaffirm our commitment to peace, interfaith solidarity, and actively building bridges across our communities.

We hold the victims, their families, and the San Diego Muslim community in our prayers.

In peace and solidarity,
Arizona Faith Network
