• Exodus 20:12(KJV) Honor thy father and mother that thy days may be longer upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee
Mothers are such an inspirational figure in any child’s life. The selfless dedication that our mothers dedicate to us is a direct representation of Christ’s undying love and constant dedication to his people.
Just as a child often and continually stumbles and falls our mothers always pick us up, dust us off and reassure us that she loves us and is there for us; that we can make it through the trouble’s no matter how tough the situation we find ourselves in. In the same way Christ is constantly there beside us as we trip and fall constantly sinning, falling short of his example. However, no matter how far we fall He is always there to pick us up; telling us He loves us, He wants the best for us, that He will never let us go and wants to help us get through our troubles if we seek Him.
I personally have always respected my father. He is a great man in my eyes and if I can be half the man my father was to me for my own children, then I can count myself a good father. But even more, if I treat my wife with the same love and undying passion that I was shown by my father towards my mother, I too may be a good husband. I learned a lot about being a man by my father’s example and I count myself lucky to have had a father like mine. But my mother has and will always be a much different, a special kinship, where my father taught me how to be a man, my mother taught me how to be a compassionate, caring, loving individual. The hours she has spent listening to my problems, not judging but caring about what was important to me, showing love through both verbal reassurance and constant prayer for her wayward son, helped bring me back to the path of Christ.
A family can be a perfect example of how God is. On the one aspect you have the Father, a teacher on how to behave, how to act, he is the law side of God’s will. On the flip side you have the Mother, she embodies His love and dedication for His children, a mother teaches love and compassion and unfailing love.
When God says to honor your father and mother it is not a suggestion it is a commandment. One that when followed, honors God himself. For He is our Father, our creator. If we as Christians wish to strive to honor and worship God, our first place to start is at home. A father is not greater than a mother, nor is a mother greater than a father; but equal in importance to their children as they are the direct physical representation of God’s perfect design for a family unit. Let us all strive to honor our parents so we may always honor our God and our savior Jesus Christ.
