How does a blogger known as “The Friendly Atheist” wind up writing a Catholic manifesto?

Leah Libresco Sargeant is an author, speaker, and adult convert to Catholicism. Her work explores faith, family, community, and our need for one another.

She is the author of 𝘈𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘵 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘯, 𝘉𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘵 𝘖𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, and 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘋𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘋𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦, and her writing has appeared in 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘠𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘵𝘰𝘯 𝘗𝘰𝘴𝘵, and other periodicals.

This fall, Theology of the Body Cleveland and Mary, Mother of the Good Shepherd Institute invite you to explore Sargeant’s most recent book, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘋𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘋𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦, in a four-week book study culminating in a special opportunity to hear directly from the author on Thursday, November 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Center for Pastoral Leadership in Wickliffe.

Sometimes the most powerful witness begins with how we love.

St. Peter Claver dedicated his life to serving enslaved people arriving in Cartagena, recognizing their God-given dignity when the world around them failed to do so.

His witness reminds us that our faith is meant to form not only what we know, but how we see and serve others.

May our own formation lead us to recognize Christ in every person we encounter
and respond accordingly.

This week, we want to recognize Miller and Gracie for spending their summer serving at St. Basil the Great.

During their MMGSI Summer Internship, Miller and Gracie deepened their faith and took time to consider where God might be leading them.

Suffering is something none of us can avoid, but how we understand it can change how we walk through it.

Join MMGSI for an afternoon with author Dr. Benjamin E. Baran as he explores his new book, Crucibles: How Faith and Science Help Us Navigate Suffering. Drawing from social science, Catholic wisdom, and his own experience, Dr. Baran will show how life’s hardest moments can become places of transformation.

He will also explain how faith and science offer practical wisdom for facing adversity with fortitude and hope.
