Sisters Mary Clark, Rosie Coughlin, and Joan Singer joined Sharon Mendelson in the MSJ library to celebrate the 160th birthday of British writer and illustrator Helen Beatrix Potter, learn more about her and read her famous stories.

Sisters Rosie Coughlin, Alicia Weiskircher, Joan Kreyenbuhl, and Joan Singer gathered in the MSJ Serenity Garden with Sharon Mendelson to enjoy a sing-along with local musician Mary Blake and lift their voices together in joyful song.

Sisters Rosie Coughlin, Mary Clark, Joan Kreyenbuhl, and Alicia Weiskircher joined Sharon Mendelson to make Chocoflan cake. Flan is most famously known as a sweet caramel custard, a mix between cheesecake and crème brulé. Originating from ancient Rome, flan was refined in Spain and is now a staple in Latin America and across the globe. For the caramel sauce, Sister Alicia heated sugar in a saucepan until it was melted and light golden and it was poured into the bottom off the cake pan as the first layer. Sisters Rosie and Mary prepared chocolate cake mix that was added as the second layer. For the final layer, cream cheese, condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs and vanilla were combined to create the flan. It was into the pan over the cake batter before being baked in a water bath and cooled and chilled overnight. The following morning Sister Joan helped to invert the cake onto a serving platter and enjoyed watching the caramel sauce drip onto the platter. The layered cake was served at lunch and was a delightful success and enjoyed buy all.

Sisters Ileana Fernandez, Rosie Coughlin, and Joan Kreyenbuhl joined Sharon Mendelson and Kerryn Carney for a trip to Ohio Amish Country. Upon arriving, Sisters had lunch at Dutch Valley Restaurant and Bakery before taking a short drive to The Farm in Walnut Creek. Sisters rode on a horse drawn wagon and fed animals from six continents. Before leaving for the trip home, Sisters stopped in the square at Sugarcreek and saw the world’s largest cuckoo clock with Swiss characters pop out to dance a jovial jig.
