In two months’ time, over 1,300 delegates — as well as many exhibitors, presenters and other attendees — will travel to sunny Phoenix for the 69th Regular Convention of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.

Wait, didn’t we just do this? Why do we gather every three years as a Synod? What exactly happens at convention, and why does it matter?

This issue of The Lutheran Witness seeks to answer these questions — to give you a sneak preview of the business that will be conducted and the major discussions that will take place at the convention in July.

The 2026 National Offering, “Christ Is Risen! Tell the Next Generation,” reflects this year’s Synod convention and its theme, highlighting the church’s eternal call to share the Good News of Christ’s resurrection with all the world. Support for this triennium’s National Offering means support for the ongoing domestic work being done by local LCMS congregations, districts and others in their service to families and young people. In our culture of death, Christians talk a lot about life and its protection. We join in life marches and advocate for the sanctity of life at all ages. We volunteer at pregnancy resource centers to support mothers as they nurture young lives. We visit and sing at nursing homes to give fellowship and encouragement to those who are nearing the end of their lives.

As we do all this, it is important that we can answer the questions: What is life? Why does it matter? Certainly, we know from God’s Law that murder is a sin. But what is “life” itself? Is it simply a beating heart and brain activity?

The April issue of The Lutheran Witness explores the Christian life on earth and eternal life in Christ. Link in comments.

Spring is here! Looking out across the fields, we know we will see rows of green within the next few weeks. It is amazing to see the constant changes around us in all that God has created.

September 25 will be the opening day of this year’s corn maze…mark your calendars! This year we will have maze paths spanning over nearly 40 acres!

We also invite everyone to join us Easter Sunday at Dieterich School gym for Easter Sunrise Service at 7am. Our services are open to all to attend. Our LYF group will be serving a free-will donation breakfast following church services in the school cafeteria. Meal will include: scrambled eggs, biscuits & gravy, fresh fruit, pastries, milk, juice, coffee. Hope to see you there!

Every Wednesday at lunchtime, join your brothers and sisters in Christ by pausing to pray the Litany. The Litany is an ancient order of prayer that Christians have used for hundreds of years. It is a prayer that is relevant every day of our lives, in times of hope, fear, joy and grief.
