We’re about to take the next step in our ongoing commitment at St. James to better understanding and living in right relationship with our indigenous brothers and sisters. We’re going to be launching a monthly Native American documentary screening series.
We’ll begin with a five-month trial, as together we watch and discuss episodes of the 2009 award-winning PBS American Experience series “We Shall Remain.” The five-part, six-hour series looks at the history of Native Americans in the United States from the 17th to the 20th centuries. Segments include “After the Mayflower,” “Tecumseh’s Vision,” “Trail of Tears,” “Geronimo,” and “Wounded Knee.”
We’ll screen these episodes in our parish hall on Sunday afternoons, right after coffee hour, on May 31, June 28, July 19, August 30 and September 27. After each screening, we’ll have a period of discussion and reflection.
