Happy Labor Day from PHLC! 💙

This Labor Day, we give thanks for the many ways people use their gifts, skills, hands, and hearts in service to others.

We celebrate those who teach and heal, build and create, protect and serve, lead and support, care for families and neighbors, and do the countless jobs—seen and unseen—that strengthen our communities. 🙏

We also remember that God calls us to value the dignity of every person and every honest vocation, while recognizing the importance of rest, renewal, and time with those we love.

May this Labor Day bring gratitude for the work we are able to do, appreciation for the work of others, and rest for all who need it. ❤️

Help us make Sunday School a welcoming and meaningful place for our kids! ❤️ We’re looking for volunteers to help supervise and guide our Sunday School classes.

No experience is needed, and all materials are provided! Ted will also help you through the process of obtaining your volunteer clearances.

Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost

When church people refer to “Matthew 18,” it is the gospel for this coming Sunday that they are thinking of, with its advice about how Christians are to deal with controversies within the believing community. The good news in the reading is especially the last line: that Christ is among us always. Come to receive Christ’s gift of himself in word, sacrament, and community.

💙 There’s a Place for You Here: Welcome Is the Beginning

At PHLC, we often say that all are welcome. But true belonging goes beyond opening the door.

It means learning someone’s name. Inviting them to sit with us. Listening to their story. Making sure they know they’re wanted—not just welcomed.

Jesus didn’t simply welcome people from a distance. He sat with them, ate with them, listened to them, and made room for them. ✝️

As a new season begins at PHLC, let’s ask ourselves:

✨ How can I help someone move from feeling welcomed to feeling like they truly belong?

Sometimes it starts with something as simple as, “Come sit with me.” ❤️

🍽️ Cooking for Crowds: Food Safety Training 🍽️

Do you help with meals at PHLC—or would you like to? Join us on Saturday, September 19, from 4:00–5:00 PM for an important food safety training!

We’re pleased to welcome Beth Kocsis from Penn State to present Cooking for Crowds, a program designed specifically for volunteers who prepare and serve food at nonprofit organizations. 🥘

The training will cover safe food handling, sanitation, temperature control, and other practical tips to help us keep everyone safe while serving our church and community.

👩‍🍳 Strongly recommended for all Hospitality Committee members and anyone who would like to use the PHLC kitchen for church events.

🍂 A New Season of Serving 🍂

September brings new beginnings at PHLC—Sunday School, youth activities, Bible study, fellowship, worship, outreach, and more. It’s also a wonderful time to think about how each of us can be part of our shared ministry.

Stewardship isn’t only about what we give. It’s about how we use the time, talents, and gifts God has given us to care for one another and our community. 💙

A quick reminder to please be cautious of emails or text messages that appear to come from our pastor, church staff, or Church Council members—especially if the message seems unusual or asks you to click a link, respond with personal information, or take an unexpected action.

🔎 Check the actual email address, not just the name displayed, to make sure it is a legitimate PHLC address.

🚫 Do not open unexpected e-vites or suspicious links.

📩 If you receive a message that appears to be a scam, do not reply or forward it. Instead, mark it as spam and delete it.

When in doubt, contact the church office through a phone number or email address you already know and trust before responding.

Please stay alert and help us keep our PHLC community safe! 💙
