As we approach Labor Day weekend, we are reminded of the Social Creed for the 21st Century, which calls us to "offer a vision of a society that shares more and consumes less, seeks compassion over suspicion and equality over domination, and finds security in joined hands rather than in massed arms.”

“A Social Creed for the 21st Century” lifts up Jesus’ words in John 10:10, that he came so that we might have abundant life. It was adopted by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA in 2008. You can read more about the Social Creed here: https://hubs.ly/Q04vZDGq0

Your Long Island Commissioners are in Milwaukee!! Please keep them and the entire General Assembly in your prayers as they meet and discern this week.

As many begin their travels to Milwaukee to join together for the 227th General Assembly, we pray for safe journeys and hearts open to the movement of the Holy Spirit. Let us be leaves of healing, growing in faith and faithfulness and spreading the good news of God's love.

Today marks the beginning of GA227—the 227th gathering of the General Assembly of the PC(USA). This year, the in-person aspects of the Assembly will be occurring in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Online committee meetings will start today and stretch through the 24; folks will begin arriving in Milwaukee on the 26th in preparation for Community Day and the convening of plenary on the 28th.

Unfamiliar with the overtures being presented for consideration this year? Head over to https://hubs.ly/Q04m5WmM0 to read up on committee business, and check out the Spring edition of the Presbyterian Historical Society's biannual newsletter, Presbyterian Heritage, for some historical background on a handful of overtures: https://hubs.ly/Q04m5pSC0.

We can’t wait to see you online and in Milwaukee!

Join us in prayer as we affirm that every person is made in God's image and beloved by God. We pray that our LGBTQIA+ siblings will always find safety, inclusion, and lasting justice in their communities.

This year the United States marks the 250th anniversary of its Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Many church leaders are wondering how (or whether) to acknowledge this occasion in worship without promoting Christian nationalism, a political ideology that confuses and conflates Christian identity with national identity. "Call to Worship" has gathered resources and guidelines for planners and leaders of worship who seek to offer an alternate, corrective approach on July 5. A pair of Presbyterian pastors and hymnwriters, the Rev. Dr. Stephen M. Fearing and the Rev. Carolyn Winfrey Gillette, joined earlier this month to offer a workshop on “Hymns That Resist Christian Nationalism.” Read more: https://hubs.ly/Q04h_Yyc0
