To reiterate the Special Notice about the cemetery rules and signs:
Just so you all know, the rules about the cemetery were made and put in the bylaws in 1972. The cemetery is private property. The Association is a non-profit organization (tax-exempt). Never had an issue back then with anything. The signs were always posted. Some were all bent, rusted or broke. All that we did was replace them with new signs that are actually duplicated.
Seems like a lot of rules, as was stated, and we totally agree. But we did not make the rules. Just bringing them out of hiding.
-
Dogs not being permitted:
As far as the rules for dogs not being permitted in the cemetery - this is obvious because the dogs p**p and some of their owners do not clean it up. Same outside around the perimeter. So, with the cemetery being private property we have the right to post our signs. We spoke to Eagleswood Twp and there is no problem. So yes, we are abiding by the law.
As far as the perpetual care:
There are some stones that some people have put on their graves/plots and they did take care of them with w**ding and spraying. In time, when you get older, you cannot maintain as you did which is understandable, therefore it was voted upon that stones are no longer allowed.
Mowing:
The inmates from Corrections do mow the grass. They did for many years as part of the county work detail. We go by their schedule, as they have many other commitments. And the weather at times is a major factor. And no, we do not have elderly people come out and maintain or mow. People that own plots come out and w**d and mow their own and sometimes just mow where and when they can. They let us know. They do this on their own. Just so you all know. We do not make elderly people do this.
Trash:
As far as trash going or blowing into anybody’s yard - that is not our trash. It is people’s trash that they just throw on the ground, or it is being blown from weather. And we clean it up.
As far as branches and being accused of putting them on cemetery property:
We found this out when the storm hit and trees came down and branches were all over. An individual kindly informed us that there were branches on the cemetery property (unknowing where they came from) and we called the township to let them know branches were there and needed to be removed.
As far as anything else, there have been liquor bottles all over the place near the shed, and someone decided it was okay to pass a bowel movement next to the door, which was actually discovered by the deputy mayor and her husband when we were having trees removed by them and the fire company. There were also issues concerning vandalism to some headstones, theft of headstone decor, littering, partying, abandoned vehicles, and other issues that have been brought to our attention. It was suggested by many individuals to have surveillance installed.
So now, we hope that you can understand why rules must be enforced (which most were part of the bylaws since 1972, fifty-four years ago).
We apologize to you all for the negative comments that were posted and were totally out of line. (They are now removed). We did not post this to start trouble. We are trying to fix up the cemetery so it will be a nice place to rest for the families when their time comes.
We are sorry for the rant. We do not like this negativity, especially when there are lies, false accusations, and zero facts.
If you have a question, please ask. Do not call names.
Again, we thank you all for all of your calls and messages, and for bringing this to our attention. Most of you have lived here for years. Never such negativity.
Thank you all for volunteering to help out and for kind words and generous donations.
Soon we will have before and after pictures of the cemetery. We are getting there.
Have a nice weekend and Happy Easter!
