Thank you to all of our volunteers and contributors who made our May 16 food pantry a success. Although adequate commodities are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain from the RGV Food Bank, we were able to provide 122 families with pinto beans, black beans, rice, raisins, frozen fish, Russett potatoes, and fresh eggs. We supplement this offering with canned mixed vegetables which we purchased at retail price from the local grocery store.

Our volunteer of the month is our Wesley Nurse Irelia, who visits with pantry clients as they wait in line for food and provides them with recipes using ingredients from that month's food basket. Wesley nurses are provided to United Methodist congregations by Methodist Healthcare Systems and they consult with patients at our local church. Come by our church office at 520 S Illinois to meet Irelia. You will love her like we do!

Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is this Saturday, May 9th. The US Postal Service is conducting this drive to benefit the RGV Food Bank in Pharr. Just leave non-perishable foods (canned and dry goods) in your mailbox by 8am on Saturday and postal workers will collect them for delivery to the Food Bank. At this time when inventory at the Food Bank is very low, help like this from the community is very valuable. Canned fruits and vegetables are specifically needed. Thank you for your help.

Hand in Hand Food Pantry distributed food baskets to 140 of our Weslaco neighbors on Saturday, April 18th. Included in the baskets were pinto and navy beans, rice, fideo, canned soup, pasta, corn, and green beans.

Our commodities are generally purchased at a steep discount from RGV Food Bank in Pharr, but sometimes we must supplement with canned goods purchased at retail price from local supermarkets when the RGV Food Bank is short of goods. This is happening more frequently than it used to and it really strains our budget. If your club, class, or other group would like to help us out, we invite you to organize a canned food collection among your members. Any canned fruits or vegetables, dry pasta, instant mashed potatoes, canned soups, and oatmeal would be most welcome. Items can be dropped off at our church office at 520 S Illinois on Monday through Friday from 9am till 5pm. Thank you!

We were blessed to be able to provide food to 147 families, representing 455 people, at our food pantry on November 15th. Delays in SNAP benefits brought us about ten extra families than we have previously been serving per month and we are thankful to have had adequate food for everyone. Items in our baskets include canned and dry beans, rice, peaches, pears, raisins, pecans, tomato sauce, corn, green beans, spaghetti sauce, and some fresh milk. Many thanks to our faithful volunteers who work every month and several folks who helped out for the first time. There is a job for everyone and all are welcome to join in feeding Christ's sheep. Your next opportunities to serve in this mission will be on December 18th and 20th.

NO TURKEYS THIS YEAR
We regret that we will not be providing turkeys this year at our food pantry. The RGV Food Bank will not be getting any this year.

September 20 provided fair weather (under 100 degrees) for our monthly food pantry. We are blessed to provide 137 local families with over 4280 pounds of food. In our baskets were fresh potatoes, milk, cereal, strawberries, rice, beans, blueberries, peaches, corn, and tomato sauce. Many thanks to our young volunteer who unloaded 42 fifty-pounds bags of potatoes in addition to the ton of other canned and frozen goods. We are very appreciated of the college students who are helping as part of their community service requirement for a clas. And, our faithful "senior" volunteers are who make this program possible every month. Join us on October 16 and 18 to help feed the Lord's sheep.
