Pastors Sunday's Nugget

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”
John 15:4–5

Effortless Change

This morning,
I’d like you to picture a strong and healthy tree. A strong and healthy tree does not worry about producing fruit or getting rid of the dead leaves on it. As long as it receives the right amount of sunshine, water, and nutrients, it will have healthy sap flowing in it that is brimming with all the right nutrients and that naturally pushes out all the dead leaves. And as long as its inward life—its healthy sap life—keeps flowing, new leaves will spring forth on this tree and good fruits will naturally grow and flourish on all the branches.
Church, as you begin to receive God’s favor and take in the water of His Word, as you begin to feed on Jesus’ forgiveness in your life and your righteous standing in Christ, the dead leaves of guilt, fear, addictions, and every type of disorder will begin to be pushed out by the new life of Jesus within you.
The transformation you will experience, when it is not based on your own discipline and self-control, is truly effortless. It is no longer, “How will I overcome this anger problem?” or “How will I beat this cigarette addiction?” or “How can I curb this habit of overeating when I am stressed and insecure?”
"Instead, it becomes, “How will Jesus in me overcome this anger problem, this cigarette addiction, this habit of overeating?”
The fruits of your success will be effortless. One by one, the addictions, dysfunctions, and negative emotions will begin to drop off from your life like dead leaves, and new leaves (new positive thoughts and attitudes), new flowers (new desires and dreams), and new fruit (new behaviors and habits) will begin to flourish in your life.

Jesus’ word to you today is simply to “abide in Me,” and you will bear much fruit.

Take a step.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." Psalm 119:105.

God gives us goals and puts dreams in our hearts, and it's important that we take a step toward accomplishing those goals and realizing those dreams. In order to live His abundant, confident, joy-filled life, it's important to understand you have a part to play. Don't sit back in fear and passivity. Instead, act in faith and take that bold first step.
Whether it's signing up for a class, making a phone call, recruiting others to help you, writing the first chapter of the book you have wanted to write. Whatever it is, take a step of faith. You may not be sure how it's going to work out. You might not even know what the second step will be. But if you do your part, there is one thing you can know for sure; God promises He will do his part in your life.

Today's thought: If you focus on God's promises rather than potential problems, you'll quickly see things in your life turn around for the best.

Let's dig deeper into God's Word. Study and review Psalm 26:3 and Psalm 16:8.

Great things to say. "Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweet and delightful to the soul and healing to the body." Proverbs 16:24.

We often focus on the things we shouldn't say, but it is just as important to focus on the things we should say. Here are a few examples from God's word of things we can say that will benefit our lives.
Bless everything you can possibly bless. James 3:8-10 says we have the power to bless or curse with the words of our mouth.

Choose to use your words to be a blessing. Be thankful and say so, Psalm 100:4.
Don't just think about how much you appreciate someone, tell them. It will make their day and yours.

Be an encourager, Hebrews 10:24-25.
Make an effort to give someone an encouraging word every day.
This is a practice that will change the way you view other people and yourself. In your quiet time with God, ask him to show you opportunities to bless others, show gratitude, and encourage someone close by.

Today's thought: It's never too late to change your conversation. Use your words to build up others and yourself. They are powerful tools that God has given you.
Let's dig deeper into God's word. Review and study Exodus 4:15 and John 12:50.

Living with Excellence.

Whatever you do, whatever your task may be, work from the soul that is put in your very best effort is something done for the Lord and not for men. Colossians 3:23.

Whatever God has placed before you to do, whether it's working in a career, raising a family, being a friend, starting a ministry, He
wants you to do it with excellence. He wants you to do your absolute best for him.

Mediocrity is easy. Anybody can do it, but it's costly. It costs us fulfillment, and it costs us real joy. One way to find purpose and joy in life is to pray in your quiet time with God, and he will always help you to be excellent in all you do each day. This doesn't mean that you'll be perfect. You will often make mistakes and stumble from time to time. But with God's help, we can learn from those mistakes and purpose to do every new thing before you with excellence in service to him.

Today's thought: It's only when you refuse to settle for mediocrity that you will really begin to discover how much you are capable of doing.
Let's dig deeper into God's word. Study and review 2 Corinthians 8:7 and Colossians 3:1.

A positive Word Based Mindset.

A positive mind yields powerful results, for with God, nothing is or ever shall be impossible. Luke 1:37.

Having a positive mindset goes beyond the proverbial idea of simply seeing a glass as half full rather than half empty. It extends to making decisions and taking actions based on hope-filled thinking. Have you ever noticed how negative thinking blows a problem way out of proportion? Situations begin to seem larger and more difficult than they really are.

Meditate on God’s word and let it renew your mind so you can think like God thinks. Practice being positive at all times, and you will have a new joy. There’s great power available to us through God when we choose to trust Him in every circumstance. A positive mindset based on God’s word knows that nothing is too big for God. He is always present, and nothing is impossible with Him.

Today’s thought: no matter how many negative things and people surround you, be positive and expect good things from God.

Let’s dig deeper into God’s word and study and review Matthew 19:26 and Matthew 15:11.

Is Jesus our number one priority?

“And he himself existed and is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” His is the controlling, cohesive force of the universe. Colossians 1:17.

This verse tells us that Jesus is holding everything together. What an amazing truth. Think about it. We can’t have good marriages or friendships if Jesus isn’t holding them together. Nothing works right without Jesus, so be sure that you invite him into everything you do.
If Jesus is not the most important thing in our lives, then we need to rearrange our priorities. Matthew 6:33 tells us to seek God and His kingdom first, because if we don’t have first things first, then everything else will be out of order and cause us problems. If you haven’t done it yet, I encourage you to start today, giving Jesus first place in your life.

Today’s thought: when you reprioritize your life, putting Jesus at the top of the list, you’ll be amazed at how everything else will come together for your good.

But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

“Take Your Seat and Begin to Reign"

There are many believers who are defeated because they are struggling to qualify for God’s blessings through their own works.

What you need to understand is that self-effort will rob you of reigning in life by God’s grace. You cannot earn your salvation, healing, or financial breakthrough by your own efforts. If the greatest miracle—being saved and made alive with Jesus—comes by grace through faith, and not by your works, how much more the lesser miracles, such as healing, provision, and restored marriages?

It is not about your work or performance, but Jesus’ work and performance. Only His work is a finished work. And not only did He sit down at the Father’s right hand, but today’s scripture states that He also made us sit with Jesus! What does this mean? Well, church "sitting down” in the Bible is a picture of the believer resting in the perfect and finished work of Jesus.
Christ has finished all the work on the cross on your behalf and is now seated at the right hand of God. As it has all been accomplished on your behalf, this means that you can stop depending on your self-efforts to earn and qualify for God’s blessings in your life. You can sit down with Jesus at the Father’s right hand!
Now, I am not advocating a life of passiveness and laziness regarding the study of God’s Word, prayer, or worship. When it comes to success in your job, God’s grace does not make you lazy and unproductive. On the contrary, it makes you labor more abundantly for His glory.
The apostle Paul, a preacher of God’s grace and the finished work of Jesus, said that he “labored more abundantly than they all” (1 Cor. 15:10). What you need to realize is, in the new covenant, God’s way is to bless you first, and the knowledge of His blessing then empowers you to labor more abundantly.
Simply this, we do not labor to be blessed, but rather we have the power to labor because we are already blessed. Can you see the different premise for laboring in the new covenant?

Church, Jesus has accomplished everything for us on the cross. Our part is to trust in His perfect work. Receive with open arms His abundance of grace and His gift of righteousness, and sit down and begin to reign in life through Him.

Today, Let the Holy Spirit teach you to start depending on Jesus’ finished work and to start receiving by His grace. This is God’s way to success, wholeness, and victorious living!

Be yourself.
“I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are your works and that my soul knows you very well.” Psalm 139:14.
In order to overcome insecurities and be the person God has called you to be, it is important to have the courage to be different. Unhappiness and frustration happen when we reject our uniqueness and try to be like others. God wants you to like and accept the person he created you to be, rather than trying to live up to other people’s expectations or be what you think they want you to be.

Ask yourself, am I a people pleaser or a God pleaser? Real peace and joy in life come when we focus on pleasing not God, not man. God knew what he was doing when he made you. You are uniquely, individually, fearfully and wonderfully made by him.

Today’s thought: accept yourself as a new creature in Christ Jesus and gain security and confidence by discovering you are in him. Let’s dig deeper into God’s word and study and review Ephesians 4:24 and Psalm 139:13.

Fellowship with God.
“In the night, my soul longs for you, O Lord. Indeed, my spirit within me seeks you diligently. For only when your judgments are experienced on the earth will the inhabitants of your world learn righteousness.” Isaiah 26:9.
Nothing can satisfy our longing for God except communion and fellowship with Him. Isaiah expressed well our own hunger for God when he wrote, “In the night, my soul longs for you, O Lord. Indeed, my spirit within me seeks you diligently.” Isaiah needed quiet times with God, and so do we.
Hearing from God is vital to enjoying His eternal plan for our lives. Listening to God is our decision. No one else can make it for us. God won’t force us to choose His will, but He will do everything He can to encourage us to say yes to His ways. This means God wants to be involved in even the smallest details of our lives. His word tells us to acknowledge Him in all our ways, and He will direct our paths in Proverbs 3:6.
To acknowledge God is to care what He thinks and to ask for His opinion. If you do this on a daily basis, you will find His guidance and walk in a much closer relationship with Him.

Today’s thought: God is always speaking. The question is: are we listening?

Why am I having problems?
“Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal which is taking place to test you, that is, to test the quality of your faith as though something strange or unusual were happening to you.” 1 Peter 4:12.
One reason we go through challenges is to test the quality of our faith. Often we find ourselves wishing we had faith as strong as another person. But let me assure you that if that person has a strong, vibrant faith, they did not develop it easily.
No one who does anything worthwhile for God has traveled on an easy road. Doing great things for God requires character, and character is developed by passing life’s tests and staying faithful to him through them. The next time you encounter some sort of test or challenge, determine to believe God will work it out for good.
Pass the test and trust God to promote you to new levels of power and blessings.

Today’s thought: Instead of asking why are you having challenges, ask God to help you have a right response to them.
