I've got good news to share! Until last spring, we were only able to run our breakfast program during the coldest months of the year. Then, for the first time last spring, we managed to keep serving breakfast throughout the summer, three mornings each week. So I'm delighted to share with you that beginning on April 22, Chaplains On the Way's Breakfast Program will once again begin its summer schedule, serving our unhoused neighbors Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings each week from 7:30 to 9:30am!

Friends, the wolves are at the door! The current Administration is gutting federal relief programs right and left. The Dept. of Agriculture has just cut a stupefying $1 billion in funding to schools and community food banks. I hardly need to tell you that once again we are living through unprecedented times, and we need your help in caring for those among us who have the least. Your generous hearts will help us to keep the wolves from the door.

Here are a few ways you can help:
1) You can donate food and other essential items. Here's a link to a Signup Genius for daily food donations. https://bit.ly/3VtCLAX

2) You can volunteer to help prepare and serve breakfast, help wash dishes, or simply sit and talk with our unhoused guests. We welcome volunteers to help us during the hours of 7:00 to 10:00am, or any portion of that time. It's up to you! Here's a link to a Signup Genius for Volunteers. https://bit.ly/4iPg2sp

3) A cash donation in any amount is always appreciated. https://www.chaplainsontheway.us/donate

4) Lastly, here's a list of items needed over the summer months. If you'd like to donate any of the items listed below, please contact the program director, Marc Fredette, by email at [email protected] or by phone at 781.652.1339!

Cans of regular grind caffeinated coffee
Assorted cold cereals, i.e., Corn Flakes, Cheerios, Special K, etc.
Granola and fruit & nut bars
Men’s and Women’s new lightweight outerwear sizes medium – extra large
Men’s and Women’s new T-shirts and underwear sizes medium – extra large
Sleeping bags
Umbrellas
Waterproof, lightweight ponchos
McDonald's $5 or $10 Gift Cards

So this summer, we welcome volunteers to help us during the hours of 7:00 to 10:00am, or any portion of that time. It's up to you!

Since 2020, Chaplains on the Way's Breakfast Program has provided our unhoused neighbors a home-cooked breakfast, a social hall, restrooms, and a quiet place to sleep for a few hours. Additionally, our chaplains sit with guests of any and all faiths, or no particular faith, to listen, bear witness, and share spiritual resources.

The Breakfast Program runs 5 days a week, from November to April, serving over 3,000 meals. Since 2024, our Breakfast Program has been serving breakfast year-round, with a 3 days a week summer schedule, April through October.

Day by day the current Administration is making it more and more difficult for small nonprofits like ours to carry out our missions. Living within such a hostile and unpredictable political landscape, we need your support now more than ever.

Without funding, Chaplains on the Way's Breakfast Program will need to be drastically reduced or cancelled altogether, cutting off essential services to our most vulnerable neighbors. Please consider supporting Chaplains on the Way's Breakfast Program. https://www.chaplainsontheway.us/donate

Your generosity can sustain hope for those who are experiencing homelessness. Consider joining the Chaplains on the Way “Hope Sustainers” by becoming a monthly donor. Go to www.chaplainsontheway.org/donate to start today.

The generosity of our donors, and especially our Hope Sustainers, makes everything we do possible—the thousands of 1:1 chaplaincy moments; the spaces we rent to offer safety, warmth, and bathrooms; the food (and sleeping mats) we provide; our support for the Waltham Community Leadership Group; all this and much more.

Celebrate Labor Day with Chaplains on the Way, the Waltham Community Leadership Group, and First Parish in Waltham. Join us tomorrow, September 4th from 12pm-2pm for a community cookout at FPW.

WCLG Summer BBQs are not just about food but are a way to build a stronger community with those around us. These open community events are just one of the many ways the WCLG and COTW are breaking down barriers between the housed and unhoused, and making Waltham a better place to live and work.
