Come join us at for a Lag B’Omer gathering around the fire with niggunim, stories & s’mores! 🔥

“Lag” is an acronym for לג the 33rd day of the Omer, which takes us from Pesach to Shavuot.

On Lag B’Omer, we celebrate the life of Rebbe Shimon Bar Yochai, the protagonist of the Zohar, our medieval mystical masterpiece. Rashbi, as he’s known, was a revealer of the hidden. So too, storytelling reveals the hidden by opening up the personal and particular into the universal.

Bring a story to share around the fire - maybe it’s how you fell in love, an amazing account of synchronicity or healing you experienced. Or maybe it’s your favorite fairy tale. All is welcome. (But please keep it to no more than a few minutes so we can mindfully share the time.)

“Elders serve as conduits between the divine realm and the mundane world, making the abstract truths of spirituality accessible to the community by embodying them in their everyday behavior.”
― Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, From Age-ing to Sage-ing: A Revolutionary Approach to Growing Older

Sifting through my archives, I rediscovered this photograph of my beloved Rebbe (of blessed memory) and His Holiness The Dalai Lama. Reb Zalman is now an ancestor in the next realm but still acts as a living conduit for me, and so many of us. HHDL is alive and amongst us, now 90 years old. I would say he is truly a living channel between the divine and mundane realms, an embodiment of his message: “Kindness is my religion.” The two men were dear friends.

It might be hard to imagine a time beyond the shofar blasts, but it will come!

In ancient times, our ancestors poured wine on the altar of the Temple - except on Sukkot, when they poured water. Water represents flow, surrender, ease, patience, and power. Water is life-affirming. It takes the shape of any vessel you pour it into and yet over time, it can alter the shape of rocks. Sukkot is inviting us to connect to the energy of Mayim - our tears, rivers, oceans.💧 🌊

You’re invited to flow with us in an autumnal Sukkot gathering featuring the amazing Jacob’s Ladder playing the best in Jewish bluegrass, plus mystical teachings, and even more mystical cider donuts.

Tickets are $18 for students and B’nai Or members, $36 general admission and kids under 13 are free. Link for tickets in our bio! 🍋 🌿

We are so excited to invite you to our High Holy Day services, co-led this year by Erev Rav Ariel Hendelman and Joel Segel. Supported by an incredible sacred music ensemble, we envision a deeply meaningful and joyful prayer experience that infuses traditional nusach and Torah reading with mindfulness, embodiment and other neo-chassidic sprinkles. ✨ 🪗 🎷

In the words of Rabbi Jonathan Omer-Man (of blessed memory), “The path of joy is ecstatic knowledge with all parts of one’s being, an integrated way of knowing. It’s truly a quest.”

This year, we step into the portal of renewal - for ourselves, our families, our communities, and the entire world.

All are truly welcome here. 🌀
