Day 3 of the youth mission trip. This morning we volunteered at the Green Bay Botanical Garden. The youth did amazing. They cleared the weeds from the magnolia tree garden. Yes, they have magnolia trees that actually grow in Wisconsin. It was hot and dirty work. So parents, these youth are ready to help with gardening and yard work. ;) We ate our lunch in the Children's Garden area. What a beautiful place. It can only survive because of all the volunteers. We learned about different plants and why certain ones need to be removed. From there we headed to Bay Beach Amusement Park where ride tickets are only 25 cents each and the most expensive ride was worth 6 tickets. They learned to compromise and work as small groups to go on everything they wanted. A few of us had some tickets left over so we found random families and donated the tickets to them. With the crazy weather scheduled for tomorrow we made a pivot and added in our Thursday scheduled activity. We headed next door to the Green Bay Wildlife Refuge Center. We saw wild animals and read their stories, some were very heartbreaking. We tried to hike a trail but the mosquitoes were rather hungry. As we went to leave we had a new kind of traffic jam, about 100 geese and goslings decided to cross the road. It was quite a sight. It was time to head back to the Airbnb as everyone was quite sore. Before dinner Tracy informed us we had done over 16,000 steps today at that point. Our chefs Emma, Ellie and Ellie made us delicious meals and I don't think anyone walked away hungry. We did surprise Ellie, whose birthday is next week, with birthday cupcake and the singing of Happy Birthday. For youth group tonight we talked about Courage and Praise. We tried to do a team activity, but it ended up with adults in laughter. It was a full day and the kids/adults too did absolutely amazing. They are an awesome group.

Tomorrow we are learning to be flexible as storms are heading this way. Stay tuned as we learn to pivot and remember God is good...

Day 2 of Youth Mission Trip. Today we started off with Chef Zoe, Chef Maren and Chef Lola taking the reigns today for our meals. We headed to Egg Harbor where we took a class on what it truly means to Leave No Trace. We then learned about the walk as a line way of looking for trash and covering more ground. The park looked great and we didn't initially see any trash, but we ended up picking up 2 bags full of bottle caps, plastic baggies and string. We then overcame anxiety (most of our young people were a little nervous) and had paddle board lessons. They did amazing and yes we had a wipe out or two (ok mine was more of a uncoordinated dismount), while others even stood up on their boards. It was rather windy and lots of white caps, but all the kids want to do it again. They overcame their worry, anxiety and uncertainty. After dry clothes were put on we headed to Cana Island for the lighthouse tour. It was 97 steps up, well one of us, ok me, made it to the first landing realizing you could see through each step all the way to the ground. I hugged the railing a little harder and make it back down to ground level. If you look at some of the lighthouse pics you will see some of our youth and adults up on the top. We experienced both the Bay and the Lake side of Lake Michigan. We made it back to our Airbnb and enjoyed a delicious supper followed by bible study. Tonight it was on peace. We talked about uncertainty and anxiety, yet God is always there for us. We followed with some "peaceful" games. I think the youth did pretty well. They were able to communicate without speaking. It was harder but they did it. There is nothing they can't do when they have an amazing team supporting them. Today the weather was absolutely beautiful; God is good.....

Day 1 of our youth mission trip. We started the morning off at worship and then headed to Montello for a picnic lunch at Daggett Memorial Park and loved hearing the waterfalls. We then went to Lambeau for a Hall of Fame tour followed by the stadium tour. We learned a lot of history about the Green Bay Packers and it was very interesting. Walking out the players tunnel was rather cool. Then it was time to check into our rather large Airbnb. The neighborhood is older with amazing architecture with each house. We are still trying to figure out what the original home owners did for a home this size back then. Next it was time to go grocery shopping. The youth were put into groups (before we left) and assigned a day of meals. They had to come up with their menu and a grocery list. They were given a budget and then had to go shopping for their items. I am happy to say they came in under budget. :) Tonight they got to enjoy fondue cooking of shrimp, steak and chicken with garlic mashed potatoes, biscuits and gravy and topped off with strawberry shortcake. For most this has been a day of lots of firsts and I am already beyond proud of them. We finished off our night with bible study with tonight's theme about overflowing hope. They did enjoy some free time with the gymnasium and video game room. Tomorrow we head to Egg Harbor for beach clean-up, paddle board lessons and then over to Cana Island Lighthouse tour. Oh and they all went to bed early. :) God is good...
