On Sunday, we put ourselves in the shoes of the Pharisees, and considered what Jesus meant when he said, "Go and learn what this means, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners."

Rev. Jack reminded us that sacrifice has the dangerous potential of drawing a line between who is in, and who is out. While mercy, on the other hand, is exemplified through the life of Jesus Christ; mercy has no regard for our drawn lines. Mercy erases those lines and draws a larger circle instead.

O Judge of the nations, we remember before you with grateful hearts the men and women of our country who in the day of decision ventured much for the liberties we now
enjoy. Grant that we may not rest until all the people of this land share the benefits of true freedom and gladly accept its disciplines. This we ask in the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord.
