You Don't Have a Sin Nature

Scripture: Romans 8:2 - "Because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death."

Reflection: As a Christian, you do not have a sin nature. You don't have a sin virus inside you. The only thing that dwells in you is the mighty Holy Spirit. Sin is not on the inside trying to get out—it's on the outside trying to get in. The Holy Spirit is on the inside trying to get out.

You are connected to this world through your physical body, and sin affects our bodies like gravity. But you are not dual-natured. You're not "a sinner saved by grace." You're either saved or you're a sinner—and if you're in Christ, you're saved, period.

Practice: When you're tempted today, rejoice! Seriously. Temptation is evidence that sin is knocking on the door trying to get in—which means it's not already inside you. Say out loud: "That's not me. That's not my nature. I am righteous in Christ, and the Holy Spirit lives in me."

Prayer: Holy Spirit, thank You for making Your home in me. I am not infected with sin; I am filled with Your presence. When temptation knocks, give me the clarity to recognize it's not coming from who I am in Christ. I am holy, righteous, and completely Yours. Amen.

The Law Amplifies Sin

Scripture: Romans 7:8-9 - "But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of coveting. For apart from the law, sin was dead."

Reflection: There's something about human nature: put up a "Do Not Enter" sign, and suddenly everyone wants to know what's behind that door. The law doesn't make us holy—it amplifies our awareness of sin and our inability to overcome it in our own strength.

The law's purpose wasn't to save you; it was to show you that you need a Savior. It was meant to drive you to Christ, not to become your life manual. The motto of the flesh is "do, do, do"—and you end up with a bunch of do-do. The Gospel says "done, done, done."

Practice: When you feel exhausted, frustrated, or defeated in your Christian life, that's usually a sign you've slipped back into "do or die trying" mentality. Ask yourself: Am I trying to produce something Jesus has already provided? Am I trying to become something that in Christ I already am? Remind yourself: It is already done.

Prayer: Jesus, thank You that You lived the perfect life I could never live. Your righteousness is now my righteousness. When I'm tempted to strive and perform, remind me that You've already done everything necessary. I rest in Your finished work. Amen.

Stop Talking About Your Ex

Scripture: Romans 7:4 - "So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead."

Reflection: You were never meant to be married to the Law. Mr. Law was a good man but a terrible husband—constantly criticizing, never helping, always finding fault. But now you're married to Mr. Grace. Whatever He asks, He provides. Whatever He requires, He does.

Christians need to stop talking about their exes. Stop talking about how hard the Christian life is, how much you struggle, how you're trying to keep all the rules. You're married to Grace now, not Law.

Practice: Make a list: What am I trying to do to earn God's approval? Bible reading? Church attendance? Being a good parent? Controlling my temper? These aren't bad things—they're just not how we base our relationship with God. Before you read your Bible, serve, or pray today, pause and say: "I am not doing this to earn anything. I do this because I'm loved."

Prayer: Lord, forgive me for trying to earn what You've freely given. Help me live from Your love, not for it. I'm not trying to become righteous—I already am in Christ. Thank You for being the best husband my soul could ever have. Amen.

You Are Not Your Past

Scripture: Romans 6:11 - "In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus."

Reflection: Stop introducing yourself by your failures. When Christ died, you died with Him. When He rose, you rose to new life. This isn't a makeover—it's a complete demolition and rebuild. You are not a fixed-up version of your old self; you are a brand new creation.

Today, pay attention to how you talk about yourself—both out loud and in your internal dialogue. When you mess up, do you immediately say, "I'm such an idiot" or "I always do this"? When tempted, do you think, "I can't help it; this is just who I am"?

Practice: When you catch yourself defining yourself by your failures, stop and say out loud: "That is not who I am anymore. I am dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus." It might feel awkward at first, but you're training your mind to believe what God says about you instead of what your past says about you.

Prayer: Father, help me see myself the way You see me—completely new, fully righteous, deeply loved. When old patterns of thinking try to define me, remind me that I died with Christ and rose to new life. I am not my past. Amen.
