Catholic Ladies of Columbia # 86

Catholic Ladies of Columbia # 86 Council 86 meets the first Wednesday of each month September through June at 7:30 p.m. At the K of C hall. December and May meetings are at 6 p.m.

Our motto is Faith, Hope, Charity and Friendship. We take each word seriously
and we take part in Join Hands Day, as well as Make A Difference Day. We raise
money to help our Catholic Schools. Every year we raise money to help a family or
person in need. Our CLC Home Office matches the funds. We mix pleasure with
business by hosting our annual Christmas Party and Girls Night Out in May. Every

year we take a 3 to 4 day bus trip. In 2012 we took 80 ladies to Chicago! More recently we have visited small towns with lots of charm and fun. In 2017 we will be visiting Geneva on the Lake Ohio.. See our page for more info and pictures of past trips.

Thursday was a free day and we went to mass at St. Anthony and then part
Of the group visited Phipps conservatory and other sites in that area. Some ventured to the Andy Warhol museum. Others went to outlet and casino. The night (like the other nights) ended in several variety’s of games in the lobby. The last day was at Sisters of Humility in Villa Maria, Pa. It was founded by the sisters of Humility and the farm there continues to raise organic food for locals and donate to the local women shelters. They offer assisted living and and a retreat center. They provided a tour and we had a catered lunch at the center. The chapel and retreat center was amazing!

We finished our day with a ride down the Duquense Incline. The views from the top of Mt. Washington are great! We then went to dinner near St. Stanislaus where there was a large selection of restaurants to choose.

What St. Patrick lacked in beauty its gardens made up for. We learned that banana trees can grow in our climate but cannot produce bananas and have to be cut down and mulched every winter.

Derris was our docent for St.Stanislaus and he did an amazing job explaining not only the history of the church but history of Pittsburgh and everything in general that was happening when the church was built. The church was different from St Anthony but still beautiful.

At St Anthony’s We were literally surrounded by saints. We could not resist visiting the church on the next day where we joined another group for a private mass. It was surreal, especially when the liturgy was on the transformation of the Lord, parish for most of our group.

Our hotel was next to the Pirates stadium and near the three rivers and had lots of great eateries and museums to visit.
