Ruby C. Gabriel Bonney, age 91 of Uniontown, Pa, passed away on Motherβs Day, 10 May 2026, at WVU Uniontown Hospital.
Ruby was born on 10 November 1934 in Uniontown to ZG and Ann (George) Gabriel. She graduated from Uniontown High School in 1952, from Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing in 1954 and returned to school as a working mother to receive her Business Administration degree from LaRoche College.
Ruby was married for forty-eight years to Thomas B. Bonney, who preceded her in death in 2011. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also predeceased by brothers Elias and James Gabriel; two infant sisters and three sisters-in-law, Millicent, Tamara, and Rosemary Gabriel.
She has two children, Patricia Ziegler (husband Martin) and Thomas E. Bonney (wife Kristina) and two grandchildren, Thomas Issac and Liam Patrick Bonney. Surviving siblings include Arthur Gabriel, Dr. Peter Gabriel (wife Mary) and Dr. Paulette Gabriel (husband Charles Morck). She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
Ruby was intentional about making her family first but had the ability to balance that with a vibrant career working up through her 70s. Ruby was a head nurse at Shadyside Hospital, a member of the Pennsylvania Nursing Association, and started the first volunteer fire-based EMT service in Allegheny County. Subsequent to her nursing career, with her business degree in hand, she worked for over 25 years in healthcare at Sewickley Hospital, business services at Waldron Company, and HR at Gabriel Brothers.
Ruby, a faithful lifetime parishioner at Saint George Maronite Church, was a member of the Ladies Guild. She enjoyed the company of the women that she worked with especially in service to parishioners and the community for many mercy meals, church dinners and festivals.
Ruby had many interests. She was an active and joyous participant in daily events all of her life. From towing a racing car to SCCA events in the 1950s to Facetime and iPad conversations with her grandsons today, she was curious and fearless in exploring the joys of life.
Renowned for her Saturday morning breakfasts, she also welcomed others to her dining table in a lifelong pursuit of sowing the seeds of lifeβs simple pleasures with family and friends. Her optimism was infectious and her giving spirit natural. Her connection with people β whether brief or long-lasting β was impactful.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Andrew D. Ferguson Funeral Home & Crematories, Inc., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, Pennsylvania, where family and friends will be received on Thursday, 14 May 2026, from 2 until 4pm and 6 until 8pm. Visitation will continue on Friday, 15 May 2026, from 8:00 am until 9:00 am. The Rosary will be prayed at Saint George Maronite Church at 9:30 am followed by the Ginnaz celebrated at 10:00am in Rubyβs memory. Entombment will follow in Mount Macrina Mausoleum. Memories and condolences can be shared with the family at adferguson.com and on the funeral home page.
