Friar Pedro de Corpa was a Spanish Franciscan priest and missionary in the Guale mission village of Tolomato, in what is now Georgia. When a baptized Guale man named Juanillo wanted to take a second wife, per Guale custom, Friar Pedro would not allow it, reminding Juanillo of the requirements of his faith. Juanillo rejected his warning and organized a war party. On September 14, 1597, while preparing for Mass, Friar Pedro de Corpa became the first of five friars to be martyred.
These five friars, Venerable Servants of God Pedro de Corpa and Companions, will be beatified on October 31, 2026, in Savannah. Cardinal Frank Leo, Metropolitan Archbishop of Toronto, will represent the Holy Father as Papal Legate and preside over the beatification liturgy.

Fray Pedro de Corpa fue un sacerdote franciscano español y misionero en el pueblo misionero Guale de Tolomato, en lo que hoy es Georgia. Cuando un hombre Guale bautizado llamado Juanillo quiso tomar una segunda esposa, según la costumbre Guale, Fray Pedro no lo permitió, recordándole a Juanillo los requisitos de su fe. Juanillo rechazó su advertencia y organizó una partida de guerra.
