Excerpt from this weekend’s homily on Stewardship of Talent:

“Eternal life is to know God and Jesus Christ whom He has sent (Jn 17:3). St. Thomas Aquinas outlines four main things that comprise eternal life. To help us remember, we use the acronym: Praise United FC, as our own FC (Faith Club) here at St. Matthew, whereby eternal life is Perfect Praise of God; Perfect Union with God; Perfect Fulfillment of all our desires, and Perfect Communion with our fellow brothers and sisters. Praise United FC is our FC of the parish. Within the parish, I would like us to see our various ministries as little FC’s, that is, little Faith Clubs, where we are given the opportunity to grow in faith, love and service.” Which is your FC (Faith Club, Ministry) where the Lord would like you to use your talent for the building of His Kingdom and service of your fellow man?

CELEBRATING THE GOODNESS OF OUR PARISH
This week was filled with very Fruitful Pastoral Planning Meetings. First, we had a meeting with all our Ministry heads on Wednesday where we gave them some basic tools such as: 4 parameters of every group (Life, Growth, Prayer, and Mission); 4 steps on how to listen attentively (Shelf your opinion; try to see things as the other does; empathize with them; and now share your opinion); 4 steps of conflict resolution (state your positions; ask why or the values behind your positions; explore all the options; and choose a win win solution).

On Friday, a team of ten joined other nine parishes in the archdiocese doing the Next Generation Parish program with Catholic Leadership Institute and Evangelical Catholic. These two groups have helped us develop our parish vision, missions, values and top priorities. The attendees for Friday’s session were leads for the various priorities and skills on how to implement them. Let us keep this our parish leadership team in prayers as we go through this next phase of implementation until June 2027. Thank you.

Celebrando la bondad de nuestra parroquia

Esta semana estuvo llena de reuniones muy fructíferas de planificación pastoral. Primero, el miércoles tuvimos una reunión con todos los responsables de nuestros ministerios, en la que les ofrecimos algunas herramientas básicas, tales como:

* 4 parámetros que debe tener todo grupo: Vida, Crecimiento, Oración y Misión.
* 4 pasos para escuchar atentamente: dejar de lado nuestra propia opinión; tratar de ver las cosas como las ve la otra persona; empatizar con ella; y finalmente, compartir nuestra propia opinión.
* 4 pasos para la resolución de conflictos: expresar nuestras posiciones; preguntar el porqué o cuáles son los valores que están detrás de nuestras posiciones; explorar todas las opciones; y elegir una solución en la que todos ganen (win-win).

El viernes, un equipo de diez personas se unió a otras nueve parroquias de la arquidiócesis que están participando en el programa Next Generation Parish, junto con el Catholic Leadership Institute y Evangelical Catholic. Estos dos grupos nos han ayudado a desarrollar la visión, misión, valores y principales prioridades de nuestra parroquia.

Los participantes de la sesión del viernes fueron los responsables de las distintas prioridades y recibieron herramientas y habilidades para poder implementarlas.

Sigamos manteniendo en nuestras oraciones a este equipo de liderazgo parroquial mientras atravesamos esta próxima fase de implementación, que se extenderá hasta junio de 2027.

What a game! Soccer indeed “unites the world.” It was such a great time to share as a parish family. The greatest complement I got was: “Thank you for organizing this. I don’t have cable TV at home. So, this was a great blessing.” We thank the Knights of Columbus and our Hispanic Ministry for the great hospitality.

¡Qué partido! El fútbol realmente une al mundo. Fue un momento maravilloso para compartir como familia parroquial. El mejor cumplido que recibí fue: «Gracias por organizar esto. No tengo televisión por cable en casa, así que esto fue una gran bendición». Agradecemos los Caballeros de Colón y a nuestro Ministerio Hispano por su gran hospitalidad.

This week, we saw the great talents of our kids who performed the play: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. The performance was simply amazing, and the attendance, very encouraging. We thank their coordinator, Christy Kuriatnyk, for all her time, talent and resources to make this so professional and enjoyable. We are
equally grateful for all the parents who bring these kids weekly for months to practice. Our gratitude goes to Rick Sauer and the audiovisual department for the great improvement of the sound quality. It does indeed take team effort to achieve such a great performance. We look forward to their next performance.

Esta semana, vimos los grandes talentos de nuestros niños que interpretaron la obra: El León, la Bruja y el Ropero. La presentación fue simplemente increíble, y la asistencia, muy alentadora. Agradecemos a su coordinadora, Christy Kuriatnyk, por todo su tiempo, talento y recursos para que esto fuera tan profesional y disfrutable. También estamos muy agradecidos con todos los padres que traen a estos niños semanalmente durante meses para practicar. Nuestro agradecimiento va a Rick Sauer y al departamento audiovisual por la gran mejora en la calidad del sonido.
