"For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven." (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

Today the people of Ascension are gathering to care for the grounds we love: raking, tidying the garden beds, and putting the churchyard to bed for the winter. There is something quietly holy about this work: honoring the season that is ending, giving the earth its rest, and trusting that spring will come again in its time.

On October 4, 2026, we gathered for our annual Blessing of the Animals on a beautiful, sunny day filled with furry friends, music, fellowship, and generosity.

Fr. Shawn Carty and Deacon Nancy helped lead the service and offered blessings to all the animals who joined us. Approximately 30 people attended, bringing along 25 dogs and 2 rabbits to be blessed.

The generosity of our congregation and members of the community was truly heartwarming. Together, we collected:
$662 in cash and checks
120 dog and cat blankets
30 pounds of dog biscuits
50 pounds of cat food
136 pounds of dog food

Debbie Blackwood from People for Pets/Magic Valley Animal Shelter was on hand to collect the donations and help ensure they reach animals in need.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came, brought their beloved pets, donated, volunteered, helped with the service, or helped make the day possible.

Your kindness and generosity helped make this year's Blessing of the Animals a wonderful success. It was a beautiful reminder of the love we have for our animals—and the compassion we share with one another and with our community.

A Prayer for Stewardship of Creation

O merciful Creator, your hand is open wide to satisfy the needs of every living creature: Make us always thankful for your loving providence; and grant that we, remembering the account that we must one day give, may be faithful stewards of your good gifts; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Collect for the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi
Most high, omnipotent, good Lord, grant your people grace to renounce gladly the vanities of this world; that, following the way of blessed Francis, we may, for love of you, delight in your whole creation with perfectness of joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Ascension's knitters group, affectionately known as KNUTS, meets Wednesday afternoons 1:00-3:00 in the small Meeting Room. Our primary ministry is to make prayer shawls for those who suffer from any grief or trouble, but members also make preemie hats, scarves, and more.

If you have an interest in handwork, we encourage you to join us. There are no requirements as to style, method, or product, and all ages and skill levels are welcome. If you'd like to learn to knit or crochet, we'll happily give you a lesson or two to get you started.
