Tubac Buddhist Meditation Center

Tubac Buddhist Meditation Center We provide a safe public space for spiritual practice through meditation and the study of Buddhism. The Center was incorporated in 2007.

The Tubac Buddhist Meditation Center (TMBC) was founded in 2006 as an outgrowth of a meditation group formed by Tubac-area residents almost 20 years ago. At that time, a small group decided to gather and meditate in an apartment across from the Tubac Cemetery. When it outgrew the original location, the group moved to Virginia Hall’s painting studio and named itself The Empty Brush Sangha. In 2006

the Empty Brush Sangha evolved into the Tubac Buddhist Meditation Center by establishing a public location for regular sitting meditation and instruction. The TBMC continues the mission of the Empty Brush Sangha to be “nonsectarian Buddhist”—where students of all forms of Buddhism, and non-Buddhists as well, can study and practice meditation. In fact, the founding members have all studied with teachers from Tibetan, Zen, and Southeast Asian Buddhist traditions. They have also all studied with the Dalai Lama in places as close as Tucson and as far away as Toronto; Bodh Gaya, India; and the Dalai Lama’s monastery in Dharamsala, India. It is hoped that their depth and breadth of experiences will continue to be of value to the TBMC as it grows and evolves in response to community needs.
