8:00 AM in the chapel (no music)
10:30 AM (organ & choir) We use the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer and the Episcopal 1982 Hymnal.

Our early service in the chapel is quiet and reverent with no music. Our later service includes choir and organ and is a rich and beautiful liturgical service. We are a vibrant and friendly congregation that loves to fellowship, live in community together, and worship in the beauty of holiness.

We are so fortunate to have retired art history professor Sherry Wallace as a member of our parish. She has taken us through a number of fascinating tours of art history, explaining the symbolism, the technique, and the glory of sacred art through the centuries. In these two one hour classes, she brings us to the ancient past to understand how different peoples and cultures have imagined sacred space.

We packed up donations for the seaborne container headed to Moldova. We are partnering with the Moldova World Children's Fund, St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal in Flatrock, and NC secretary of state Elaine Marshall to send a seaborne container full of donated medical equipment, textbooks, school materials, and more to Europe's least developed nation. Our Holy Cross team inventoried and packed donations this week, and prepared them to head to Moldova!

A Voice Between Worlds: Coloratura, Character, and Virtuoso Piano in Liszt, Strauss, and Weill

Melissa McCann, soprano, Michael Langer, piano with guest tenor Tyler Young, tenor appearing in selected Kurt Weill selections.

A program of coloratura, character, and virtuoso piano, A Voice Between Worlds brings together the music of Liszt, Strauss, and Weill in a recital built for dramatic contrast and musical electricity. With McCann’s agile soprano and Langer’s commanding pianism, the program moves from Romantic intensity to theatrical brilliance, placing voice and piano in equal partnership. The recital opens in the Romantic world of Liszt and Strauss before turning to the unforgettable theatre songs of Kurt Weill. In the final set, guest tenor Tyler Young joins McCann, adding a second voice to Weill’s world of memory, wit, and character.

Fr. Robert is wearing a Pittsburgh Pirates hat given to him by Pittsburgh native Vern Leister. It was purchased in 1979–the last time the Pirates won the World Series. Fr Robert says if we just believe, they will win the World Series again. Now that’s faith!
