Matthew 16: 21-28
21 From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. 22 And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you.” 23 But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? 27 For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. 28 Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”

As the school year gets underway, we now know the reach of our July school supply drive: 277 students and 110 families (including 74 students and 36 families from outside the area)!

We're grateful for a church body that is willing to meet practical needs and be the hands and feet of Jesus in our community. Thank you for helping local students begin the school year prepared and encouraged!

As we work to plant and replant churches across NE Kansas, we want to raise up men equipped to serve through faithful preaching. Over roughly 10 Friday mornings, starting on September 11 at 6:30am at the Emmaus Ministry Center, we will work through the sermon-building process together as you develop your own sermon and preach it to the group.

This Lab is open to men from any church, not just Cap City. And if you have attended a previous Lab, feel free to come through again! If you want to sharpen your skill as a preacher, we'd love to have you.

Starting this Sunday, kids programming will be available during both our 9:00 AM and 10:45 AM services, giving families more flexibility to choose the time that works best for their schedule.

We’re also excited to have Noah Oldham preaching on Sunday. If you’re attending Church Forward’s Men’s Conference this weekend, you’ll get the added treat of hearing Noah there as the main speaker and then again with us during the service.

We can’t wait to worship together!

Over 10 weeks, we’ll learn practical skills for praying through Scripture, studying the Bible, loving our neighbors, and sharing our faith. All while learning and practicing together!

Please join us via Rochester Road for services tomorrow (8/16). If you’re driving from in town, we recommend taking 46th Street across to Rochester and going north.

Last night's storm downed several trees and 25+ power poles, so 62nd is closed between Rochester and Hwy 75.

The church has power, is accessible, and our parking is unaffected, so services are on as usual. Please also keep the linemen and emergency crews working to restore power to hundreds in your prayers.
