Jueves de la VIII Semana del Tiempo Ordinario, Evangelio según San Marcos 10, 46–52:
En aquel tiempo, al salir Jesús de Jericó en compañía de sus discípulos y de mucha gente, un ciego, llamado Bartimeo, se hallaba sentado al borde del camino pidiendo limosna. Al oír que el que pasaba era Jesús Nazareno, comenzó a gritar: “¡Jesús, hijo de David, ten compasión de mí!” Muchos lo reprendían para que se callara, pero él seguía gritando todavía más fuerte: “¡Hijo de David, ten compasión de mí!”
Jesús se detuvo entonces y dijo: “Llámenlo”. Y llamaron al ciego, diciéndole: “¡Ánimo! Levántate, porque él te llama”. El ciego tiró su manto; de un salto se puso en pie y se acercó a Jesús. Entonces le dijo Jesús: “¿Qué quieres que haga por ti?” El ciego le contestó: “Maestro, que pueda ver”. Jesús le dijo: “Vete; tu fe te ha salvado”. Al momento recobró la vista y comenzó a seguirlo por el camino.

Hoy, en varios países del mundo, la Iglesia celebra la fiesta de Jesucristo, Sumo y Eterno Sacerdote, una solemnidad que recuerda que Cristo es el sacerdote definitivo y eterno, quien entregó su vida para la salvación de toda la humanidad. ✨🙏

Esta celebración, que se realiza el jueves posterior a Pentecostés, tiene una profunda raíz en la tradición de la Iglesia y fue impulsada especialmente tras el Concilio Vaticano II. En países como Perú, España, Chile, Colombia, Venezuela y otros, también se vive como una jornada de oración por la santificación de los sacerdotes y por nuevas vocaciones sacerdotales.

La fiesta destaca que todo sacerdote participa del único sacerdocio de Cristo y está llamado a prolongar su misión redentora en el mundo. Como enseñó San Juan Pablo II, Jesús, el “Sumo y eterno Sacerdote”, ofrece al Padre toda la creación redimida mediante el sacrificio de la Cruz y continúa actuando a través del ministerio sacerdotal de la Iglesia.

La Carta a los Hebreos presenta a Cristo como el sacerdote perfecto, capaz de comprender nuestras debilidades y conducirnos a la misericordia de Dios: “Acerquémonos, por tanto, confiadamente al trono de gracia” (Heb 4,16).

También resuenan hoy las palabras de Benedicto XVI, quien recordaba que el sacerdocio no puede reducirse a una profesión común, sino que es una vocación sagrada nacida del llamado de Dios. La Iglesia necesita sacerdotes santos, fieles y capaces de llevar esperanza en medio de un mundo necesitado de fe.

En esta fecha especial, los fieles son invitados a rezar por sus sacerdotes, agradecer su entrega y pedir al Señor nuevas vocaciones que sigan anunciando el Evangelio con alegría y valentía. ❤️

Gospel of the Day (Mark 10,32-45)

The disciples were on the way, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus went ahead of them. They were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. Taking the Twelve aside again, he began to tell them what was going to happen to him.
"Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and hand him over to the Gentiles
who will mock him, spit upon him, scourge him, and put him to death, but after three days he will rise."
Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him and said to him, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you."
He replied, "What do you wish (me) to do for you?"
They answered him, "Grant that in your glory we may sit one at your right and the other at your left."
Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I drink or be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?"
They said to him, "We can." Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink, you will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized;
but to sit at my right or at my left is not mine to give but is for those for whom it has been prepared."
When the ten heard this, they became indignant at James and John.
Jesus summoned them and said to them, "You know that those who are recognized as rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones make their authority over them felt.
But it shall not be so among you. Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant;
whoever wishes to be first among you will be the slave of all.
For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many."

God of power and mercy,
you destroy war and put down earthly pride.
Banish violence from our midst and wipe away our tears,
that we may all deserve to be called your sons
and daughters.
Keep in your mercy those men and women
who have died in the cause of freedom
and bring them safely
into your kingdom of justice and peace.
We ask this though Jesus Christ our Lord.

El lunes después del domingo de Pentecostés, la Iglesia celebra la memoria de la ‘Bienaventurada Virgen María, Madre de la Iglesia’.

En este día, fortalecidos por la presencia del Espíritu Santo, tenemos la ocasión propicia para profundizar en una dimensión importantísima de nuestra fe: la Iglesia que Cristo fundó está ligada íntimamente a su Madre y al papel que Ella desempeña dentro del plan salvífico de Dios. María vela por cada uno de los hijos del Cuerpo Místico de Cristo con amor maternal, los protege de las insidias del Maligno y los acompaña durante su peregrinar por esta tierra.

La memoria de la Bienaventurada Virgen María, Madre de la Iglesia subraya que Ella es Madre de todos los hombres, especialmente de los miembros del Cuerpo Místico de Cristo, en virtud a la Encarnación del Verbo. Jesús mismo lo confirmó así desde la Cruz: «Cuando Jesús vio a su madre, y al discípulo a quien Él amaba que estaba allí cerca, dijo a su madre: “¡Mujer, he ahí tu hijo!” Después dijo al discípulo: “¡He ahí tu madre!” Y desde aquella hora el discípulo la recibió en su propia casa» (Jn 19, 26-27).

Es claro que la veneración de la Iglesia a la Santísima Virgen no solo no debe ser soslayada, sino, por el contrario, debe ser preservada y fortalecida como un elemento intrínseco del culto cristiano. Así se ha de dar cumplimiento a las palabras de la Virgen: “Me llamarán Bienaventurada todas las generaciones” (Lc 1,48).

Gospel of the Day (John 17,20-26)

Lifting up his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed saying: "I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe in me through their word,
so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me.
And I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are one,
I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection as one, that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them even as you loved me.
Father, they are your gift to me. I wish that where I am they also may be with me, that they may see my glory that you gave me, because you loved me before the foundation of the world.
Righteous Father, the world also does not know you, but I know you, and they know that you sent me.
I made known to them your name and I will make it known, that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in them."

En aquel tiempo, los once discípulos se fueron a Galilea y subieron al monte en el que Jesús los había citado. Al ver a Jesús, se postraron, aunque algunos titubeaban.

Entonces, Jesús se acercó a ellos y les dijo: “Me ha sido dado todo poder en el cielo y en la tierra. Vayan, pues, y enseñen a todas las naciones, bautizándolas en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo, y enseñándolas a cumplir todo cuanto yo les he mandado; y sepan que yo estaré con ustedes todos los días, hasta el fin del mundo”.
