Good evening. Temperatures may dip down to 35 F over the next two to three nights. Your garden area could be colder (or warmer) than that however. I am covering my warm weather plants for the next 2-3 days and nights with a row cover. Temps as low as 33 can damage tomato plants, peppers, squash, cucumbers, melons, etc.

It looks like temperatures are going to start warming up over the next 10 days. Despite that, we may need to still be patient before transplanting out tomatoes, etc. Outside temperatures are important but soil temperature may be more so. Our warm weather plants like tomatoes and peppers prefer soil temperatures above 60F. Even warmer is better for some plants like peppers and eggplant. Keep in mind these are all tropical plants. I recommend that you check the temperature of the soil you plan to use for these plants before placing them in the soil.

Mother’s Day is often the target for planting out our warm weather vegetables (and annual flowers). NOT THIS YEAR! Temperatures the first part of next week are expected to dip down into the high 30’s here in Tooele. Be patient. We want night time temperatures to be over 50 a good percentage of the time before we plant our tomatoes, peppers and eggplant, in particular, outside unless they are provided extra protection.

So many fun things going on at the Preparedness fair on May 7th. Helping to tie a quilt is just one more thing that you can participate in that day. And these quilts will be donated to the Children's Justice Center when we are finished.

Wow! Well we just got a LOT of moisture yesterday! Hopefully the last SNOW of the season 🤞 although we wouldn't mind rain. 😅 But that moisture is going to be great for the yard and garden work coming up for all of us!! What are you planning to plant in your garden this year??
