Taking Our Thoughts Captive—
Have you ever noticed in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 where the weapons of spiritual warfare are mentioned, it says “ …and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” One of the most unrecognized and yet incredibly effective forms of spiritual warfare is to take our thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ. We’re not to allow our thoughts to dwell on things that are sinful or defeating. We stand up to them in Jesus’ name and deliberately put our mind on God’s word and His Truth. We have to pay attention. Next time depressing, fearful, angry, or negative thoughts come into your mind, take a deep breath, remember you have authority, then rebuke them in Jesus’ name. Turn your mind to His Word. When the thought says you’re not good enough, you say “I am a child of God, in Jesus’ name!” When the thought says no one cares, you say Romans 5:8 In Jesus’ name, “God shows His great love for me because while I was still a sinner, Jesus died for me.” You get the idea. Stand up! Be deliberate! You’re a child of God. It’s time to heal and be set free. If you diligently try this and you can’t seem to shake the bad thoughts off, have a friend pray with you. If you’re still not getting free, find a counselor or pastor who believes and is able to help unpack what you’re experiencing. Freedom is the birthright of God’s children. God bless you!
