More Good News From Kindergarten -
Hands On Learning At It's Best!

The Kindergarten class recently read the book How Many Seeds In A Pumpkin? Today they got to scoop the guts from inside of pumpkins and they worked to separate the seeds from the stringy pieces. Tomorrow they will count the seeds and see which of the three pumpkins has the most seeds.

Learning is always more fun when you have the chance to get your hands right into it, isn't it?

Today's Good News -
Kindergarten Students Get The Picture!

To say that our super smart and talented Kindergarten class "gets the picture" is an understatement! This week HFS Technology teacher, Mrs. Rosenthal, visited the Kindergarten classroom with one of our new cameras. Mrs. Rosenthal was recently awarded a grant to build a "Creation Station" at Holy Family School. The Creation Station's purpose is to teach the kids that technology isn't just for consumption, but rather can be used to create really cool things. Each kindergartener got to try framing and taking a picture of their classmates with Mrs. Rosenthal's help. They did an amazing job!

Today's Good News -
Kindergarten Artists Use Shapes To Build Monsters

Today in Art class our pint-sized Picassos used shapes to "build" a portrait of a Frankenstein monster. The children were asked to use at least five different shapes in their drawing and to fill their page with color. Squares, rectangles, circles, ovals, triangles, diamonds, semicircles, crescents, stars and hearts filled their creations... and colors? Their papers were filled to the brim! Sorry we only caught one photo before our little monsters (and their makers) headed back to the Kindergarten classroom. Great work, everyone!

Alma Thomas

It was a busy morning for our fabulous 1st Grade! They came to Art class ready to work following the viewing of the relics of St. Bernadette and the virtual tour presentation. Their task was to draw a spider with a colorful abstract web that mimicked the style of African American artist, Alma Thomas. Thomas is best known for her "exuberant", colorful, abstract paintings. Her artwork had a notable focus on color. She stated, "The use of color in my paintings is of paramount importance to me. Through color I have sought to concentrate on beauty and happiness in my painting rather than on man's inhumanity to man."

The children created their work with pencil, black permanent marker and colorful wax crayons. Well done, everyone! 🕷

Today's Good News -
The Rellcs of St. Bernadette Visit Holy Family Parish

Today Holy Family Parish has the honor of hosting a viewing of the Relics of St. Bernadette. This national tour is organized by the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes in France. There was a special private showing for our students in Kindergarten through Grade 6. Plus two different presentations of a virtual tour of the real site and story behind it. A morning presentation for K-Gr2 and an afternoon presentation for Grades 3 - 6. What a wonderful and special event for our students!
