Devotion 6/24

Being confident of this that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus
Philippians 1:6

If you've ever walked through a VBS hallway on a Tuesday night you know it looks a lot like a major construction zone. Several people going all different directions things hanging from the walls and ceiling, artwork half done, Bible study, food, recreation time, music all happening at the same time.
It's easy to look at all the activity of VBS week or the chaos in our own lives and wonder if anything meaningful is actually being built. But that's actually how construction works before there is a finished building there is a giant hole in the ground dust everywhere and a lot of noise.
In Philippians Paul reminds us that God is the ultimate master builder he isn't intimidated by the mess when he looks at the chaotic energy in the classroom the child who won't sit still or even your own tiredness at the end of a long evening He doesn't see disaster He sees a work in progress.
VBS is all about planting seeds and laying foundations we might only see the under construction sign of this week, we might only see the flashing lights and the chaos, but God is playing the long game the simple truth you share during game time or the extra patience you show during crafts might be the exact foundation stone a child stands on in years from now.
You don't have to be perfect to be used by God this week you just have to show up to the job site and let him work through you.

He started this good work and he is faithful to finish it.

A special thank you to all our VBS workers this week!!!

Devotional 6/17

“So the Lord said, ‘I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.’ But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.”
GENESIS 6:7-8

We’ve come to a day in which a man’s word means absolutely nothing, whether it’s a treaty between nations, a marriage contract, a business agreement, or a political speech. In Genesis 6, we read that people’s hearts were wicked continually before the Lord. And it had reached such a level that God said, “I’m sorry that I made them! I’m going to have to judge the Earth.” The same sins that produced the flood in Noah’s day have reached up to Heaven today.

But what did Jesus say the days of Noah were like? He said they were, “Eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage” They were going on with the same old routine of life. The problem in our society is that we’re standing right on the threshold of imminent judgment, but nobody seems to care. We just yawn in the face of God.

We need to thank God we have His amazing grace.

Devotion 6/10

Real life and real living are not related to how rich we are.
—LUKE 12:15 (TLB)

There are two ways of being rich, have a lot, or want very little. The latter way is easier for most of us. Many people make themselves miserable by wanting more than they can ever have. They suffer from “thing-itis,” the insatiable desire for more, better, and newer things. Jesus was the most satisfied man that ever lived, and He had less than most of us. “The foxes have their holes, and the birds their nests, but the Son of man has no place to lay His head.” He had learned the secret of adjusting His wants to His needs.

Prayer
Father, You have given me so much more than I deserve. May I always show a grateful and contented heart.
